Sassy Teething Feeder

OK, this is going to seem like a REALLY silly request. I have a Sassy Teething Feeder (little blue mesh bag w/purple handle) which I've never used until today (forgot I had it - oops!). I thought my son might like to try some pineapple, so I put a piece in the little bag, screwed the top on, and gave it to him. He LOVED it. But now, I can't get the dumb thing open so I can clean it, or better yet, give him another piece of pineapple! I have a college degree, I should be able to figure this out! I'm following the instructions on the package, but I can't seem to get my fingers to hold on the little locking tabs while I twist the handle. Is there some secret trick to getting this thing open? I think it's a great little invention, and my son clearly thinks that pineapple is the best thing since pureed carrots. Help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the suggestions! The warm vinegar worked like magic! I didn't think about the fact that the sticky pineapple juice would complicate things. The pliers would probably be helpful too in the future, when I can't seem to find an extra pair of hands.

L., it isn't a silly question, first, put a small bowl, coffee cup... of vinegar, in the microwave, about an ounce or 2, for 30 seconds, put where the sassy opens in the warm vinegar, it will unglue the "sugar glue" from the pineapple, rinse well. it should work, has for me before. good luck, K.

I have two of them and love them! I usually use my teeth (bad habit probably) to pinch the tabs together and pull the bottom down. (Mine doesn't involve any twisting, it just snaps into place)
Hope that helps. They ARE a great invention, my daughter (just turned 1) loves them!

Hi!

My daughter loved those things too and I had the same issue! Half the time I'd have to have my husband help me. It seems that they designed the little prongs to be fit for the size of baby fingers, but it requires the strength of weightlifter to push them together and get it open!

Make sure the prongs are clean and dry (not slippery)and maybe try one of those grippy things. If that doesn't work get a pair of pliers!

God speed! I've bent a nail or two on those wonderful little things. :o)

I take offense to the college degree comment since I do not have one but can open this device....It is difficult, you just have to have dry hands and be able to squeeze and pull at the same time. I couldn't figure this out at first so I had my husband show me and now I can open it every time. Just practice.

I hated that thing LOL. I only used it once because like you I couldn't get the blasted thing open again...and when I did finally get it open (ok so my husband got it open) I couldn't get the mashed up bananna remnants out of the mesh!! So it went in the trash.

Are you in Grand Rapids? I think Sassy has some kind of Office here. Call them, tell them the situation. I'll bet they would send you a new one. If you have the packaging, the number might be on it. Or they have a website, I'm sure. Maybe yours is defective? Good Luck!

Thats funny...I started using mine this weekend also and had the same problem!! It took my hubby and myself to open the first few times...now I have the hang of it. Have someone else turn it while you press the buttons down....you will get the hang of it with more practice! Good Luck!

I know nothing about the Sassy Teething Feeder...you may have to contact the company but do be careful with pineapple. While your baby may have liked the taste, the acid in the pineapple could very well burn the inside of his mouth. Just a suggestion. C.

I had this problem also. If you over tighten the top it can stick and it took me alot of trying to get it off. If you have a guy around with stronger fingers they do real well at it, but if not, I pushed until my fingers hurt and it finaly let go. You have to get those tabs pushed all of the way in. Once you get it open be careful to always get the top on straight and don't tighten it to many times. Good Luck!

I have the same feeder and my sons both love it! I put my thumb and middle finger on the locking tabs to turn it. Sometimes it is easier to get it off if the cap is on the mesh part! Good luck!
