Hi, I'm 14 weeks and have been having some sharp pains in my abdomen since about 10 weeks. It happens especially when I get up or turn over at night. I've heard that this is normal and it's called round ligament pain but how much is normal? It feels like sharp, stretching pains along the sides of my belly. Does anyone else have this pain?

What can I do next?

Yes, I had it too. Mostly the first half of pregnancy. Even standing up quickly caused pain (sometimes enough that I doubled over). The ligaments that support the uterus are really being stretched and worked.
But after about the 20th week, it seems to have really eased off.

Totally normal. Mine got so bad at times that I would stop mid-movement and not be able to move for quite a few minutes...mostly out of fear of more pain, lol. "They" say it should end with your second trimester, but I had it with my last two kids (8 lbs & 9 lbs) all the way until the end. There really is nothing you can do other than learn which movements cause the pain and try to avoid making those movements.

I had it too when I as pregnant. The first time it happened I thought something was wrong. For me it was worse on days when I was particularly busy at work or walking a lot. The thing that worked best for me was to lay on my side with a pillow between my knees and as my belly got bigger sometimes I would put a pillow under it to support it. If you think the pain is particularly bad you might want to talk to your doctor just to make sure it's not something more serious. It doesn't hurt to ask, especially if it will cause you less worry. Congrats and good luck!

Yep. I've had it with all three of my pregnancies and that's just about the time it started, too. Thankfully it didn't last the whole pregnancy. If you're not sleeping on your side yet, start now. That helps. Lots of water and no quick movements will both help cut back on the pain too. Hang in there and congratulations!!

Mine has been sharp since day one. I literally have gasped because the pain was so intense when I rolled over! At almost 31 weeks, it still is bad sometimes, but it was definitely the worst right around your time frame. I also think that since this isn't baby number 1, my body knows what's going on and is trying to stretch itself faster. :( I hope you are doing okay in this NC heat...I am ready for a break!

I had it with my second pregnancy sometimes it would hit through out the whole pregnancy but it slowed down a lot after the second trimester. Im also currently pregnant with my 3rd child and have had it already and im only 8 weeks. its no fun and just like jamie i have had to stop mid-movement cause the pain was just so bad. but good luck, and its completly normal, just another wonderful thing about pregnancy that no one told you about lol

I had that with my first pregnancy. I have a very small torso so it was especially strong with me. I found that taking homeopathic arnica and mag phos, as well as doing yoga helped me a ton.
Good luck with your pregnancy!

I had it with all three of my boys and with a pregnancy that ended in miscarriage and a D&C last summer. For me, it was the worst in the first trimester, when my body was growing out of regular clothes and into maternity clothes (except my first, it was in the 2nd trimester).

Yep, and I hate it!!! It is round ligament pain. That is one of my least favorite parts about pregnancy. It will get better.

I had those. Ouch! Something must have been messed up with the last pregnancy though (twins, 3.5 years ago) because they'll attack me sometimes when I sneeze or get up too quickly. But for the most part, both times I was pregnant they were gone by about four months. Hope it goes the same, or better!, for you:)

I had it with my first, and it was AWFUL! The first time it happened, I was walking down the hall at work and literally doubled over and was clutching the wall! It can be very sudden and incredibly sharp! I went in and they told me that was the issue. I was about 14-16 weeks. Discuss it withyour doctor to be sure. I had it off and on until the very latest stage of the pregnancy, but I didn't have it at all with my second pregnancy.

I am 17 weeks and have them often. Sometimes if i get out of bed to fast I have to stop mid movement. It usually doubles me over and is quite painful. It also really freaks out my hubby.
