When my son had rotavirus, I was told to feed him, just not too much. He won't get better until he gets it out of his body, and it comes out through the diarrhia. The more icky diapers he has... the faster he will get the virus out of his body. It takes about 10 days-2 weeks. It's not going to stop for a while, but his eating will get back to normal. Just dont over-feed him... my son got sick of pedialyte so we mixed it with rice cereal (he was 8 months old) and I gave him too much... and he threw up all over me. The worst part was that it was at daycare, it was in my building at work and I had gone down there on my lunch, and had to go back to work with no change of clothes. Start out slow and slowly increase so it is not too hard on his stomach and he can keep it down... and as it comes back out, he is getting closer to getting better. I bought a big thing of vaseline and put a thick coat on his butt between every diaper to protect it, and he was fine. The only way rotavirus will spread is if you don't wash hands after changing diapers or from the vomit. It is not airborn at all (he was in the ER Christmas Eve... we were still able to go to our family christmas as long as we were careful about washing hands). Make sure he gets his liquids, but he needs to eat too. The BRAT diet is usually recommended... Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. Those are all easy foods on the stomach and easy to digest... but they will go through him fast too. Good luck! I know how rough it is having a child so sick... and this has to be one of the worst things for a young child! I don't know if your son has had a fever... mine had a 106 fever... I think that was the scariest day of my life. But he is fine, and got back to normal in about 4-5 days (other than the diapers of course. )
