My daughter had roseola around 10 months and it was gone within 4 days. It started with a fever then after the fever, the rash started. It looked bad but she was not bothered at all by it. The whole thing was over quickly...she was fine. Don't worry--it will be gone soon!

My one year old son had the same thing about a month ago. It started with the fever lasting a few days and then the rash. The doctor told me the same thing. Once the fever broke, the rash came, but after a couple of days, the rash went away and he was fine, and then two new teeth popped out! The dr did tell me that roseola is a common thing for babies to get, so I wasn't too concerned. Try to hang in there, the rash should go away in a couple days.

Roseola is a pain, but that's about it. The scary part is the high fever...my son had it when he was about seven months old. The fever got pretty high some days, but we managed it with Tylenol and Advil. It finally came down and he got the rash. The rash is funny because it mostly starts on their trunk and then works its way out through their arms and legs and face. Adults generally have immunity to it, but it's contagious for other kids until you get the rash. Once they get the rash, they're no longer contagious...that was a big pain for us since both my husband and I work. We just traded off days though. All in all, just one of those random childhood things...a pain, but as long as the fevers don't get high, not much to worry about. If you're already at the rash stage, you're in the home stretch!

Has he taken any medications that have a rash as a side effect? Tamifu is one that is causing that. Has he taken that or anything else?

I think my 24 month old son might have it too. I noticed red dots all over his torso, front and back, but nowhere else.

Yes! It's very common, but it sure freaks you out. It's the body's way of dealing with the fever. For babies it is just a little more intense. He'll be great, no worries :)

My first two had it, and although the fever is VERY scary, it's not a dangerous disease. The rash should go away in a few days, and then your baby will be back to normal. :)

I just learned about roseola myself. I have a four-year-old girl who presented the same symptoms: runny nose at first, it turned into two-day mild fever and finally she woke up covered with pale pink rash. The pediatrician reasured me over the phone that it is nothing to worry about, it is caused by a virus and by the time we "diagnosed" it, it wasn't contagious anymore. I was worried because I am pregnant 28 weeks. Sure enough, the rash cleared in two days and she is completely fine. The only difference is that my child is older and has been exposed to more viruses. Good luck and don't worry!

Yep, my baby had it. The worst of it is over once the fever is gone. The rash will go away in a couple of days, but he's still contagious while he has it.

Yes J., the fever has broken right? He'll recover from the rash, is he uncomfortable? You don't want to bath him in hot water...just mildly warm water. The heat will irritate the rash.

The fever is really scary as well as the appearance of the rash! My daughter was about 18 mo when she had it. Other than the fever and the scary looking rash, she seemed fine. I took the precaution of keeping her in the house for the duration of the illness, but my doctor said she was okay to interact with other children while she had the rash. I didn't want other mother's to be scared off by her appearance, so I just kept her home. She was maybe a little lethargic and tired easily but she still wanted to play around. I took that as a good sign. He'll be okay and so will you.

It's very common and really no big deal. The really good thing is that once he's had it once, he won't get it again.

This response is a little late, but I just read your post. My son had the exact same thing at about the exact same time. I'm sure you know by now that the rash goes away after about 24 to 48 hours and it doesn't itch. Just a little upseting for us moms to see!

Oh yeah! I remember my son getting that. And I was so glad that a friend of mine's daughter had it so she had told me what to look for. Or I would have freaked out. ;) So hang in there. If I remember correctly, there isn't much to do except for be patient while it runs it's course. You can give tylenol to help with the fever. Check with the doctor. It'll pass. Hang in there! big hugs....R.

My first daughter had roseola when she was 4 months old. The rash will go away in a couple day. It does not bother them usually and it is just a virus that needs to run its course. I freaked out when my daughter had it, because we were on vacation and I thought she was allergic to something in the place we were staying.
My experience was exactly as you stated, she had a fever for 3 days and then covered in a rash. It has never come back.
take care

Yes, my daughter Lauren had it a few months ago (she is now 14 months old) and she first had a fiever and then the rash. The rash stayed on her for 3 days that's when I took her to the doctor. It is nothing to worry about. It will go away as quick as it came.

My daughter had that for her 2nd birthday party! The fever was gone but she had the red dots. The doctor told me it was contagious, but if the other kids didn't touch her they should be OK. I had rented out The Little Gym for the party. I decided to still have the party but called every parent to tell them she had it so their kids could still come if they wanted but to not hug my daughter or go too close. A few kids didn't come, but 15 kids came and had a great time and fortunately no one came down with it. The rash lasts a few days, but once the fever is gone the worst is over. I had never heard of roseola until she got it, but after talking to a friend and my doctor, I knew that's what she had. Hope Jaksen is better soon!!

Yeah, I think it was January that my 2.5 year old had Roseola. The worst part is definitely the high fever for no reason, that always freaks me out. My son's doc actually said by the time he has the rash he's not contagious. The rash will last 2, 3 days at the most & then he will be fine.

Roseola is a virus and other than the fever and rash it is just like the flu, it is usually harmless and goes away with out side effects. It looks really bad, but really it is just a process you have to go through.

Hi My daughter had it when she was 18 months. we picked it up during a trip to sea world. She was fine in a week or so. The dr. said she was only contaigious during the fever but to stay away from pregant women under the rash cleared. there's nothing left of the rash, unlike chicken pocks that can leavr marks. most moms I know said there kids picked it up on trips or from other kids in there play groups.

I remember when my oldest daughter had it was when I took her to Hawaii - nice timing! Anyways it was a little bad the first day and then got worse the next two days and then cleared up a day or two later. Just do not worry if he gets worse (the rash) before it starts to clear up.

Hi, J.
I haven't had any occurances of Roseola, but my neighbor has. Her daughter just got over it. I understand that it can occur after a fever, and her doctor said that once the Roseola has become apparent, the child is no longer contagious and that the Roseola will go away on its own. I guess it looks worse than it is. Her daughter is fine now, over her little fever and illness and the rash is gone, as well.
