10 Month Old with Roseola

My son had this too. The rash went away after about a week. The Dr. said it doesn't itch or anything. I put a little Eucerin on it because it felt a little dry, but my son was fine.

Sounds like Roseola. 2 of my 3 kids had same thing. My oldest had 2 visits to Dr. & Er because high fever no other symptoms fr 4 days then woke up fever gone and red rash all over should be gone in couple of days. I wouldn't worry she will be fine.

My son had it but never showed any signs of discomfort even with the fever. It was really high for a few days and then just like you said when it broke the rash appears in the trunk and somtimes arms, it is related to Chicken pox, but it is really quite harmless. They say it is one of the most "missed viruses" because the fever may sometimes be so mild and the rash is really faint and with "0" discomfort so they don't usually whine or cry about it too much. But lots of love and a day or two more and it's all over.

I think i would get a second opinion. What he told you just doesn't sound right. That was a long time to have a fever. Hope you get some good advice. Mine had fevers, but not a rash from them.

Yes, she will get better soon. It takes a day or so to get better after the rash comes out but then it's like it never happened. My daughter did the same thing with roseola. It's almost over, hang in there!

If had this happen several times w/ my daughter. The rash is caused by the virus that is causing her fever. The fever part will go away, but the rash will persist a bit longer --- being over heated will make the rash look worse, but doesn't hurt. She'll be fine soon.

Yes, I think you're exactly right! I've had 2 with roseola and that's exactly what happened. You can tell when it's a HIGH fever like your baby, and nothing else but the rash. YES, it goes away like nothing ever happened! We didn't have any further problems whatsoever with both children. Hang in there - you've made sure she's healthy otherwise, so it's ok.

Sounds exactly like what my son had at about that age. We actually missed diagnosing the fever because we were camping in the mountains and figured his fussiness/lethargy was due to the altitude (and didn't have a thermometer with us - stupid, I know). When we got home and he was still cranky, I called the doctor afraid he was suffering from some sort of altitude sickness. The next day (day of the appt) he woke up with the rash. The doc took one look at the rash and labeled it Roseola and said there's nothing we could do for it. It took about three days for the rash to go away and for him to return to his normal, non-clingy self. Hang in there, though as always, if your gut tells you something else is up, it never hurts to get a second opinion.

My daughter got Scarletina (scarlett fever) at 18 months and had to go on antibiotics. They used to think that kids under 4 years old did not get it but they do. I do not know if with Roseola they are supposed to be on antibiotics. Sounds like it's okay to wait another day or so, but it also never hurts to take her to the doctor again just to make sure. I always do even if there is nothing that can be done. My daughter has very sensitive skin and gets allergic reactions here and there, even having one around Halloween from going to the pumpkin patch and breaking out all over her body which lasted about a week.

Hey there! My 12 month old had roseola at about 7 months. Her symptoms were exactly as you have described. If I remember correctly, I read that she would be feeling normal a day or two after the fever broke, but that was not the case with my little one. She was clingy, lethargic and a little fussy for about 4 days after the fever broke. I'm sorry your little one is going through this. It will pass soon and she will back to her normal self! Sounds like roseola, but take your daughter to her pediatrician to make the diagnosis. When my son was 11 months old, he had a 100-103 degree fever and sinus cold/ear infection for 4 days (we were out of town too!) before he broke out in a rash all over his body. He coincidentally had an appointment with his pedi on day 4 to check out his ears. Every single assistant (and the pedi too) who saw him would stop and say, "Oh, looks like he has roseola. Good thing; it'll make him stronger!" Yes, my son wasn't eating much and was clingy too. After a couple of days his rash cleared up, and he was back to his cheerful hungry self. Just remember that when you are sick, you don't feel well, don't eat much and want to be clingy too.

My son just got over it. It really wasn't a big deal. I did the same thing. Took him to the doctor and they said it's just a fever. When we went back the second time our doc realized what it really was. He ran a fever for only a few days and once the fever broke he was lots better. The rash lasted about a week but it didn't really bother him too much. If her fever has already broken then you are on the way back to a happy baby girl.

My daughter suffered also had a bout with Roseola after receiving her MMR which was followed with a realitively high fever for almost 1 week, and then to top it all of Roseola. IT started on her face and slowly swept through her body and in 1 or 2 days she was covered in spots. My ped. diagnosed it immeditately by stretching her skin taughtly anywhere you see the rash (which might be everywhere by now) and if it goes away where the skin is taught it is Roseola. My daughter was extremely clingy, whiny and did not eat or drink well. Within 2 days all her symptoms disappeared and she back to her usual self. The ped. reassured me that the rash was not painful, she was just a clingy from not feeling well from the fever and whatever illness brought on the fever. Hang in there, it will pass quickly!

That sounds like exactly what happened to my son when he had rosela. He had 101 to 104 fever and when the fever broke he got a rash just as you described, was very tired and had a smaller appetite than usual. It did go away in about 3 to 5 days. It was scary for me being a first time mommy however it did go away rather quickly. Remember to keep her hydrated, give her some tylenol and lots of love. She'll be back to her regular self soon!

I know how scary it is when our babies get sick, every time my son or daughter even gets so much as a cold I wish that there was a way I could make so that it was me who was sick instead of them. My son has gotten rashes twice and it was pretty scary the first time because, like your daughter, he had been sick with fever and was lathargic, turned out he had what they call fifth disease, I think roseola is the same thing, which there is really nothing you can do for it, usually clears up in a few days. My doctor said that USUALLY rashes in babies are not too much cause for concern and go away on there own. But you know if she doesn't get better in a few days bundle her up and take her back to the doc again, trust your instincts. Take care

my 11 month old daughter had Roseola a couple of weeks ago: high fever (even a seizure because it shot up so quickly). After the fever broke and her spots appeared, her appetite came back and she was totally back to normal in terms of her personality.

My daughter's spots lasted 24 hours but my doctor said they could go as long as a week. I think the worst is over and your baby will be back to normal any day now.

She'll be fine. Our son got it when he was about 1 1/2 on Thanksgiving day a couple of years ago. Not fun, but it didn't last long. It's very common for babies and young children to get it. It's not pretty, but it will go away.
Our son also got really sick when he was 9 mo's old with a bad cold. Didn't get roseola then, but he didn't want to eat and was clingy. Actually, every time he gets really sick it's that way for a couple of days. Just try to get as much fluids into them as you can. It sure isn't fun when our little one's get sick. ;-(

Fever rashes, or viral rashes... are common in young children or babies. Even some adults get it after a high fever or illness.

Both my kids have had that on their body as yours did when they were younger. Per our Pediatrician it will resolve itself. How long varies.

Our Pediatrician said that it is NOT unusual. It is not dangerous in itself... it is mainly the toxins leaving the body. It is not contagious.

It is common for an ill baby or child to be clingy. That's normal. They just need extra comforting and soothing, and naturally since they are not feeling well, their appetite is not on par.

When she is better, it will get back to normal. She is still recovering from her illness.
No need to put anything on the "rash"... as this may just irritate it. Per our Pediatrician.

My son had roseola too. It was a long time ago so I don't know how long it lasted but it really wasn't a big deal. Your daughter will be fine soon. Kids tend to eat less and be clingy when they are sick no matter how old they are. She'll feel better in a few days and go back to eating normally. The doctor would have told you if he was concerned.

One of my daughter's always gets a bad, red dotted type rash after a fever for a couple of days and has no appetite. I have learned it is just the way her body responds to a virus. Hang in there!

We just went through it too. Once the rash hit, my little one seemed to feel so much better. It went away for us in about 4 days. Good luck! It's never fun to see your little once sick :(

HI, E.. I'm G. and I have 2 daughters, the youngest of which is 13 months old. When she was about the same aga as yours, almost at 11 months, she had very high fever for 2 days and I had to take her to the doctor but the doc couldn't find anything wrong with her - no infection, nothing. After a couple more days, she had rashes all over her back and tummy and a little on the face. I thought it was measles, but thought, too that she completed her shots. So, I took her back to the doc and he said that it was roseola. If your daughter's is the same as my daughter's symptoms, the rashes will be gone in about 2 days or so. When my daughter's rashes came out, she had no more fever and she was fine. Hopefully, your daughter will be okay in a few days. God bless!

if your daughter is vaccinated then she shouldnt get that but if she does it should be very mild. are you sure its not chicken pox? what does this rash look like? do you notice any other odd rashes that are on her hands feet or mouth (hand foot mouth can cause a rash on the body and diaper area). i would keep taking her in as long as she has symptoms till they know for sure shes ok. good luck!

This happened with my second baby right around the time he was 12 mos old. After the fever broke, he broke out in the Roseola rash and that seemed to make him more uncomfortable than the fever did. I had heard about Roseola, but I was not prepared for how upset he was so I rushed him to urgent care (holiday weekend). It turned out he had a mild ear infection that went away on its own within a few days (I had him re-checked at our usual doctor when he was back in the office). I don't know if his discomfort was from the rash or the ear infection because he had both going on, but he was starting to feel better by the end of the first day that the rash appeared.

Sounds like roseola to me! My son had it. My daughter also had a similar rash when she was a baby, but hers was a viral rash and Benadryl helped that.
