My daughter is only 7 1/2 weeks and has been rolling from tummy to back for two days. I've never heard of a baby doing this so early.....is this good for her? Is she going to do things early or is this just a fluke?

What can I do next?

awe isn't that sweet? Mine also both rolled early, by 8 weeks. They seem to hit their milestone to say.. hey mom, just wanted to let you know I can do this..but I'm going to hold off for a while now.

Each kid is different. I'm happy to say even though they were early rollers neither walked before 12 months. You never know how they'll develop. Have fun recording their milestones. It's my favorite part of watching them grow.

Doing one thing early or on time, just means that they did one thing early or on time. You should not get too far ahead of yourself, there is nothing conclusive about the development of a 7 week old child that will predict her future. Just enjoy your baby.

hi -
babies can roll over as early as 2-3 months. make sure she is tucking her chin in when rolling over (not extending her neck/head back). tucking her chin will build core muscle strength :)

Our daughter rolled over very early also.

She also lifted her head and turned it towards me the moment they laid her on my tummy just as she had been delivered..

FYI, she was walking on her own at 6months too..
You can't stop them, they each develop at their own rate..

Babies roll from their tummy to their back fairly early on...at least in my experience, a couple of weeks or more before the 2 month mark for all 3 of mine. So it's totally fine :o). Mine survived it!!

My daughter (now 12) did that very early also. She rolled over numerous times very young and then not for a while then again at the more age appropriate time. She Is smart and athletic and seems to catch on to stuff and understand it quickly (but not on everything). So based on my experience not a problem. Enjoy and record these fun little milestones

My youngest started rolling tummy to back when he was 5 1/2 weeks old. No one believed me til I got it on video! I am sorry to say he did every thing really early and deprived me of his babyhood :) He crawled (comando style) at 3 months, crawled on hands and knees with belly off the floor at 5 months, walked at 8 1/2 months.

Developmentally my peds told me that if he was physically able to do it on his own than he was probably past anything that would hurt him. By this I mean when he was rolling from back to tummy on his own to sleep at night at 4 1/2 months, she said that the risk of SIDS wasn't an issue any more than if he was doing it at an age where most kids do it. Hard to word that...hope it made sense.

Can't tell how the rest of her milestones will be, early, ontime or late, just because she rolled over early. But chances are they'll be early. Though my youngest rolled over earlier then her sister, but has been WAY later on crawling (mostly because she just rolls everywhere), so who knows. :)

However, rest assured its fine for her. Be extra sure that the crib is free of toys and extra blankets since she's rolling but not too strong. Use the sleep sacks for babies instead of a blanket, and some pedi's recommend removing bumper cushions from the crib. I always thought that was kind of extreme, but with an early roller, it might be a good idea.

Best wishes!

No worries, it's probably a fluke. It won't hurt her...you just can't leave her on the bed anymore LOL!
