5 Months, Not Rolling Over

I know that babies do things at very different paces, but for some reason it is really bothering me that my baby girl is not rolling over yet. She is just over 5 months old, completely healthy at birth and has grown like a weed since. She is hitting all other milestones: reaching, grabbing, pulling her head up constantly, rolling onto her side, holding her bottle for a while, starting to eat rice cereal and some purees, looks to sounds, follows with eyes, etc. Not sure why this is bothering me, but when did your baby first roll over? I know I shouldn't compare her to my son, but he was rolling over just over 3 months of age. Silly, I know.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I do "practice" and encourage her (with toys/lights/mirrors). She lays on her side, and just rolls back to her back! You all have eased my worries! THANK YOU! Like many of you have said, she is hitting all other milestones, so she may just be taking her time here. I guess with my first rolling so much sooner, I didn't know what was "normal", hee hee, normal, yeah right! Anyhow, thanks again.

Do you 'practice' by rolling her over from side to side and back from tummy to back and back to tummy? I did that with my grandson and it seemed to help him and he was a bit chubby. That slows them down. Also if content and happy sometimes they just don't care to roll over. Don't worry.

My daughter didn't roll over until she was 9 months! Healthy baby meeting all milestones except that one.

She crawled two months later then walked 4 months after that.

If you are really concerned, please mention it to your child's doctor. Other than that, play games and have your son help encourage the movement. We had a crawling toy that sang and lit up that my daughter loved to play with.

and try not to worry too much! :)

Is she really chubby? Or very laid back? As long as she is ok in other areas I wouldn't worry. My friend's daughter is very chubby and at 5 1/2 months, just rolled over. My son rolled over from tummy to back really early, like at 2 months but was probably 7 or 8 months old when he completely rolled the other way. He would go most of the way and then realize, hey, I don't like to be on my belly. Try giving your daughter more tummytime and see if that helps. Hard not to compare though. Sounds like your daughter is fine.

Sounds to me like she's right on track. My daughter is 5 months 1 week, and she has rolled over, from back to front just once. I've been trying to encourage her to do it again with no luck. She rolls up on her side and that's about it. No silly questions : ) My son has been a little quicker at most milestones as well, I just decided to tell myself that I simply can't compare the two and that's that!

My younger son started rolling over at 4 1/2 or 5 months. We were completing shocked because big brother didn't roll over unil 6 or 7 months. Both are increadibly active, agile and climb on EVERYTHING! No reason to worry.

I wouldn't worry, especially since she's doing so many other things. If she's already rolling on her side she'll probably roll completely over any day now. My second son did everything a month or so behind my first son and it's hard not to compare all the time, they are both so different.

I know you love your baby girl and you are thankful that you have two DIFFERENT children. As long as your doctor says she's doing fine, don't worry about her. (So talk to the doctor, for your own peace of mind!)

If she's healthy, she's just operating with a different internal clock. One of my girls rolled late, sat late, crawled late, stood late, and walked late (not until sixteen months), compared to her siblings. She was just an easygoing little person! Now she's a schoolteacher and runs after kids all day long, so I figure she's making up for lost time....

My best friends little girl is 7 1/2 months old and JUST started rolling over. I wouldn't worry about it. Also, my niece is 8 months and she pretty much refuses to sit up. She's doing all of her other milestones just fine and has the strength to sit up, but just doesn't want to. She could just be doing things her own way - not by the book :).

Don't compare-maybe it will happen next week-or next month-she's fine-I think my Grandson was close to six months old when he rolled over and he is the smartest human being I know. I think babies are less apt to roll over now because they sleep on their backs-give her lots of awake, supervised time on her tummy and she will make the connection.

My daughter could walk before I ever saw her roll over. I mean, she was at least 9 or 10 months before she could get from her belly to a sitting position, and she never crawled, and she walked at 16 months. She was slower than a lot of kids doing gross motor stuff, but she wasn't delayed or needing EI or anything. And now she's a completely average 6 year old. At 5 months I wouldn't worry at all.

My DD rolled over once by the time she was 5 months, and that was a fluke. She finally got it down by the time she was 7 months old. She is 11 months now, and already walking well. She just took a while to figure out the rolling thing.
