If the band is wide, you would go up a half size. If it's fairly thin, you would go down a half size.
Wider bands tend to cause more swelling and be harder to get off so half a size bigger allows for that.
Best wishes.
My HUSBAND (love saying that!) wears a ring size 9 1/2 ... sort of. He probably really wears a 9, but was being a putz when we were sized for our wedding bands. He is wearing his grandfathers wedding band, and doesn't want to bang it up at work, so he wanted to get an 'el cheapo' ring to wear on workdays (he lifts a lot of bricks and stuff; the ring will get destroyed).
Anyway, I've looked all over the place for a cheap something he can wear to work, but NOTHING cheap comes in 1/2 sizes... so I finally broke down and got him a size 9 ring today (surprise!)... I'm just still second guessing it. I got the 9 because the original ring really probably should have been a 9 (said the saleswoman at the jewelry store)...
So my question is this... if it was your purchase, would you have gone the 1/2 size up or the 1/2 size down?
If it was for me personally, I would have gone up (we're not resizing this thing, we don't have the $ to spend on something that silly), and I usually do becauseI don't have a choice, I have tiny fingers.
Up or down?!
ETA... I'm just afraid if we go up the 1/2 size, it'll fly off and he'll lose it!
THE 9 FIT!! HE LOVES IT!! :)

Hmmm.... Resizing up half a size is usually free, unless it's very engraved. (It's resizing down ANY amount that gets pricey, up a *small* amount they usually just put on a wand, use clamps, and push. Takes about 10 seconds, and they'll often do it in front of you. It's pretty easy to stretch a ring up 1/4 to 1/2 a size).
Either or will be fine. IF he retains a lot of water from salt will make the most difference.
IF it gets tight and he needs to take it off use WINDEX.
I worked in a fine jewlery store for five years and that's what we found worked 99% of the time.
If it's a regular band with NO PATTERN it can be reduced without cutting and stretched if it needs to go bigger. We did that for free only IF it could be done that way.
Tungsten Carbide is extremely hard and nearly indestructable. It is like next to diamond on the Mohs hardness scale. I only mention this because that's what my husband got. He paid $40 and it came in half sizes. Got it from Sears online. He is blue collar all the way, so he will most probably destroy a ring. We figure it should hold up pretty well, but if he destroys it, we can get a replacement cheap. LOL
up. because if its too tight he wont wear it. if its too loose you can always put a piece of tape around it to make it fit better. I know they seel those ring sizers too.
HOW SWEET!!!! I would keep the 9 - i'd not like it to be too tight!!
I would've not spent the money on it....and let him keep the nice one at home....
my husband lost his wedding ring on our honeymoon in St. Lucia....never found it...we when got home - we went a hunting for another ring for him - we were able to find the exact same one for $200 more than we paid for his originally but it's all good!!
When you see him put it on his finger...even if you have to squeeze it on. LOL! Love men who wear their wedding rings proudly!
my hubs just doesn't wear a ring when working on things like that. (bricks, construction stuff, electrical).
I'd probably go a size down. But really, it depends on HIM. I'd have him try on a 9 and then a 10 and see if 1. he can get the size 9 even ONhim. and 2. see if the size 10 falls off.
These are made in Texas, but I would guess you could have it deleverd to your house. Good quality. Nice jewelry. They have half sizes.

My husband was in the Army for many years, and I got him a Tungsten Metal ring off of Ebay. Best ring ever, there are so many different designs, colors and sizes. I only paid $50 too and its a nice one, and they are indestructible. My brother has one as well and has ran over it with a truck and it didnt even scratch.
I would have gone for the 1/2 up because when you are working, your fingers swell and then there is room.
for me up - my fingers 'swell' depending on the day ;-) LOL
for him down a size if they thought it should have been a 9 anyways!
he's gonna Love it :-)
Still Can Not wait to see pictures !!!! HAHA
I probably would've gone up - I think if you are sizing a ring down sometimes it is free.....but then again, if the lady said he should wear a 9 in the first place then I probably would've done what you did. LOL
My husband just doesn't wear his ring to work. No biggie here.
Depending on the width of the band, size up. If the width is thicker, you have to size up, if it's thin you might not need to. You can order cheap-o bands offline to, in any size...usually.
My ring is probably a half size too big but my joints are wider than my fingers. I hate smushing a ring over that. Right now it is driving me nuts because the two parts aren't connected yet (something about me having to have it seperate for the wedding) and they slide in opposite directions. Hopefully once they are one piece it won't drive me crazy anymore.
So I would be a vote for a half size bigger.
