Retractable Clothesline

I am thinking of replacing our stand alone hanging rod with a retractable clothesline in our laundry room. I have seen many of them under $20 and was wondering if these hold up. Any experience with them?

What can I do next?

I use a tension rod -- like a shower curtain rod. Holds up for years and I can hang heavy clothes on it all winter. I can't put my long sleeved tops in the dryer or they shrink and then don't fit my extra long arms.

Even works for heavy jackets, wet from shoveling or playing outside.

The retactable lines seem to be too weak for my needs.

Oh, I hang my clothes on a hanger first. I can fit almost a full load of clothes this way.----If in a hurry blow them dry with a fan.

I have seen retractable clothes lines at Walmart for very cheap, though they are plastic. I bought one for a friend and she used it for a year before moving. She never had any complaints.

We use one in our shower for wet swimsuits. It's perfect for that. But more than a few swimsuits and it gets too heavy. I have to replace them about once a year because they break.

I bought a heavy-duty one at Home Depot about four years ago. It's still going strong, and I've put some pretty heavy things on it.

However, I'm with Rudy in that I prefer my tension rod. It hangs in the laundry room itself (my retractable line is out on my porch), and can hold a lot more weight than a clothes line.

Good luck.

Hey! We have an outdoor retractable clothes line and love it. We got it at Lowes, about $20, it is made in the UK (go figure that we could not find a US made retractable clothesline). Ours would probably be too big for inside, but I LOVE being able to use a clothesline.
