Hey mamas! My mother is retiring from teaching at the end of May. Tonight is her work retirement party (my father, sister and I are going). We're also having a party for her at the beginning of June. What is the etiquette for gifts? Should I give her one tonight as well as at the party we're having for family? I'd think a gift once would be enough but not sure if I should wait and do it later? Should I get her a corsage or something instead to wear tonight? I have a huge scrapbooking kit I was going to give to her for either Mother's Day or her retirement....

What can I do next?

I would get her flowers for tonight and another gift for the family party.

A corsage is a lovely idea, but she may be getting one from the party organizers. Is there a way you can check? Also, your presence is enough for tonight, as you will be having your own party. Just remember to take pictures of her with groups of co-workers, as these will be treasured memories.

I like the idea of flowers tonight. THis is the school's way to say goodbye and it was very nice of them to invite you all.

I think a corsage is a lovely idea and then a special gift at your own party. She will be happy with the support you are showing.
