Hi--
Does anyone have a recommendation for a dentist who takes blue shield of CA for my 22 month old? He has not been to a dentist and I don't want his first visit to be scary.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all the responses! I have a list of dentists to contact for my sons. Yippee!! The insurance is secondary to my boys having good experiences with the dentist. Thanks again!!

Martin Hatzke is absolutely fabulous with kids. The entire staff is. I recommend him to everyone. He is located by the mall on Blossom Hill road. ###-###-#### My son had to get some fillings at 5 yrs and I was terrified for him . ONe pediatric dentist wanted to put him under general anesthesia so he would hold still and cooperate. Dr. Hatzke said that was ridiculous, and he filled his cavities and managed to convince my son that he had a fun time at the dentist. You can't beat that!

Another recommendation for Dr. Rabitz. . .he is WONDERFUL!! All three of my kids go there and they love him. My daughter was terrified of dentists at first, but once we found Dr. Rabitz, all was better. I've never had to go in the room with them, each one goes willingly with the staff and they have fun while they're there.

Good luck!!

Yes I do, her name is Dr. Catalina Phan and her office is 1570 La Pradera Drive, Campbell. This is right off Campbell Ave. and San Tomas Aquino behind Big Lots. The phone is ###-###-####. I just started with her and we are switching our kids when there when their next appointmens come up. She has 2 young children herself and her office is very open and friendly. I don't know if she takes Blue Shield but you can call and ask. Good Luck!

M.,
Dr. Barrera, 2211 Moorpark Ave. Suite 130
San Jose, Ca 95128 ###-###-####, is really great. I've had all 3 of my kids go to him since my oldest was 2 and he is now 9. They team up with the hygenists to make the first times easy and friendly and then top it off with tv's on the ceiling, balloons or stickers and toys on the way out. My kids LOVE to go to the dentist! They even have a special visit for new little ones where they count teeth and are very careful to respond to the child's emotional well being.

Good luck,
L.

I am not sure if they take Blue Shield, but yesterday my 6 year old son asked if he could go to the dentist because he likes the toothpaste they use!

My only children are my cats and I'm not even young enough to have children any longer, but Amanda T. sent me the site.

However, Dr. Eugene Ravizza would be great. He is on Forest by O'Connor Hospital. He has grandchildren but I've had my teeth cleaned while he was working with a little one. He's great. Please mention my name.

M., I'm nuts about dogs but have never lived where I can have one of my own. What do you have? My parents had a Newfoundland and that and the Pyrenees that my sister has in Oregon are my dream dogs for the future. Peter-She (I know it was a crazy name; we never figured out why Mom wanted to call her female dog that) weighed 165 pounds, so you do have a lap dog (tee hee).

My daughter had a FABULOUS pediatric dentist (until her dad stopped paying for the insurance... but now she's old enough that I've switched her to my dentist/plan and she's fine).
Her experience was so good that she actually LOVES going to the dentist and, if it's been a while, she actually asks to go (I have to explain that we only go every six months).
They are:
White Oaks Dental
(Drs. Lawrence Darrow and Simon Morris, DDS)
14507 S. Bascom Avenue
Los Gatos, CA 95032
###-###-####
(they're just on the edge of Los Gatos -- near Campbell/West San Jose. They're located at White Oaks and S. Bascom, between Camden and Samaritan.) I'm not sure what different kinds of insurance they take, but most major insurance, I'm sure.

Hi M.,
Well, here's another recommendation for Dr. Greg Rabitz. He, as well as his entire staff, is absolutely great! I have five kids and they all love him! Also, the office is new and state-of-the-art, while still being very inviting to the kids. The lobby is decorated with pictures of kids who've had no-cavity checkups, artificial redwood trees that look as if they're growing right through the room, there's Molly the Molar, a giant molar kids can drop their name into after every no-cavity checkup for a chance to win a brand new bike... I could go on and on but instead of doing that, let me just say, you should check them out. Your kids will love Dr. Rabitz and so will you. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

Hi M.,
My 3 year old son just had his first dental checkup and we thought his pediatric dentist was great! Our pediatrician recommended him to us (his son goes there also) because he has experience with special needs children. My son is unpredictable in new situations and we didn't want this to be a traumatic experience for him. It wasn't, thank goodness, and we even got some good x-rays with his cooperation. I don't know if they take Blue Shield but you can call them to find out.
Dr. Ligh at Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics ###-###-####
They are at N. Bascom Ave. (at Forest Ave.) in San Jose.
Good luck!

pediatric dentists are rather rare, so i think you can call up blue shield or look on their website to find out who will accept your insurance. that might be easier since they are so rare and you are concerned about insurance.

Hi M.,

I take my kids to see Dr. Rabitz (yes, that's his real name. He even wears a baseball cap with rabbit ears on it!) in San Jose. I believe the website is www.drrabitz.com He is a really good dentist and he has a great staff. They have lots of toys in the waiting area, very kid friendly, my daughter loves going there!

Hope that helps!
