usually just a consultation...then the testing is dependant on your cycle...certain tests usually on certain days of your cycle...you can google hsg, endometrial biopsy...those two stand out in my mind at the moment. i'm a clinical social worker/psychotherapist and i specilize in infertility, so if you have specific questions or are in need of resources, feel free to e mail me. it's a trying journey, i know...

it completely depends on the reason for your visit.

Mine did not do anything the first visit, but look at the records collected by my OBGYN.

You go in on your monthly cycle dates for blood tests to measure all sorts of things, including glucose levels, FSH levels, estrogin, progesterine, ect. once you are on your cycle there are certain tests that they do in the office, and a screening that you do at a radiology department.

Hi C.,
Of coure every doc is different but you'll certainly be getting lots of blood tests, hormone tests mostly. You'll have to come in at various days during that first month to see if you have normal hormone levels for certain days of the month. Nothing invasive, just drawing blood. Good luck!

Hi C.,

99% of RE's do an FSH--follicle stimulating hormone-- estrogen, & progesterone blood test. Some check for infections--urinalysis, and pelvic exam. Nothing terribly invasive. Mostly family and personal history, what have you done so far, yaddy yaddy yaddy.
One thing I want you to know from the outset--FSH does NOT tell you anything but how hard your ovaries have to work to produce a follicle. Despite what they might have you think, it does NOT!!!! tell you if you have old eggs and can't use your own to get pregnant. I have worked with women for a while who have fertility issues and can tell you from my own personal experience that you CAN get pregnant using your own eggs with a high FSH. I had a baby at 45 with my own eggs because I had a doctor who believed in me as much as I did.
If you have a negative experience, email me and we can talk.
MOST important, you need to keep the faith and visualize holding the baby, give it a name and talk to it daily.
Big hug!
