My 12 week old had thrush for the 3rd time now. He and I have been treated 2 times before and he now has it again. I don't know why he keeps getting it. Everything that goes in his mouth is sterilized and he is exclusively breastfed. Has anyone's baby had thrush more than once? He doesn't seemed bothered by it but I feel so bad for my little angel.

What can I do next?

My lactation consultant recommended I take acidophilus, preferably the live cultures. You can get live cultures at Whole Foods or any health food store. I ended up finding some acidophilus pills on the Costco website, which I used the entire time I nursed my daughter, and I never had a problem with thrush.

My son had thrush 5 times before he was 9 months old. Do you also have it on your nipples? I did, and I felt bad but ended up stopping nursing him at 9 months due to the pain it caused me. The pedi had me give him nystatin and a cream for myself also... multiple times... Didn't work. I finally found Gentian Violet at Walgreens it is all natural but very very dark purple and stains painted it on my nipples and felt better within days.. So sorry you are going through this. Ask your dr. about Gentian Violet or at least look it up online you may find lots of useful info :) Happy breastfeeding!!!!

All that and limit your sugar intake...if you can.
Yeast LOVES sugar.
I would also get a probiotic to give your son.
We used this one: http://www.renewlife.com/florababy.html
It's a powder, we wet a paci and dipped it in it. He loved it!
HTH!!!

Thrush is an over growth of yeast which is naturally in our bodies in small amounts. I suggest trying probiotics. You take the pills, eat plenty of yogurt to build up your system to be healthy enough to stop the over growth and you'll be giving your baby the same immunity thru your milk.

My 2 kids who were 1 year apart literally passed thrush back and forth till they hit toddlerhood... and then it was gone :) Not saying my children are "normal" but their pediatrician wasnt concerned and treated it each time. GL.

Have you been checked/treated for it? My son also had it and so did I. I had to take oral and topical medication to get rid of it.
