Treatment of Thrush - Bonney Lake,WA

My friend went through several bouts of thrush with her latest. Thrush feeds off of the sugar you consume. Cut the sugar, cut the thrush. It's difficult, but can be done.

the best thing I have found is Oregno oil. It doesn't taste very good but let me tell you it works like a dream. I went around and around with thrush and this was the only thing that took care of it. You put drops under your toung and rub some on the bottom of the babies feet I know it sounds wierd but within a few days it was gone, I had it in my breast also and it took care of that also. You need to call this lady: PJ ###-###-#### it is best to talk to her because she can explain exactly how to use it. I know she doesn't charge but a couple dollars for shipping. I didn't want to get a perscription when my daughter got thrush and the associated yeast infection, so we got the OK from her pedi to use Lotramin AF (athletes foot cream) to treat the yeast infection in the diaper area and it worked really fast. We just changed her very often and used a mixture of neosporin and Lotramin every other diaper change. Most of it was gone in three days, with all gone in about two weeks. We also made sure to sanitize her bottles before every use and her binkie whenever we got the chance (every couple hours if possible).

Before we got the OK to use lotramin, I read online to make an oatmeal bath a few times a day and soak their tush in it. I did it in the kitchen sink. Just fill a sock with oatmeal and let it soak in the water till it turns cloudy. It helped a little to clear it up, but it seemed to help a lot to sooth it because she stopped crying during diaper changes after we did this.

I also made a saltwater solution and dipped my finger in it and rubbed it around in her mouth on the affected areas and it was gone from her mouth after two applications (once per day for two days).

I only went through one time with Thrush, and that was hard enough.

I remember my dr. gave me a perscription for an anti biotic, and recomeneded that I get some of the anti fungal
cream....for athlets foot. I cleaned after each feeding with a warm soft cloth and then put said lotion on. My son was treated with the nystatin liquid, and also a nystatin cream for the rear end.

You need to be treating your breasts with a nystatin cream also. Thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth that travels to the breast. Call your OB/GYN's office and talk to a nurse. Normally, they will call in a prescription for a cream form. You have to treat both the mouth and the breast or you just keep transmitted the infection back and forth.

Gentian violet. It's messy and is stains clothes. However, it works!

I did three bouts of thrush with my baby girl and discovered that I had to just throw away all things she sucked on and buy new stuff - this includes pacifiers and bottles. It was spendy but I hurt so bad and she was so unhappy. Be extremely careful about taking her around other kids as she can grab someone elses sippy or pacifier and spread it - it is highly contagious. Cleansing yourself is really good...nyastatin - is that the purple stuff? If not I would highly recommend the purple stuff they coat baby's mouth with and they can also put it on you as well while you are there. I can't remember what it was but it sure did the trick finally!

I battled a yeast infection for six weeks...and it was not fun. I don't think my baby had thrush, the yeast was in my breasts. You do, however, have to treat yourself and your baby simultaneously or you can just give it back and forth. It sounds like you are taking steps to treat yourself. Here are a few things that I did that I believe helped: I used a vinegar/water solution on my nipples after feedings and followed up with Lotrimin which is an antifungal cream. I also washed absolutely anything that came into contact with my milk in hot water and vinegar. I also began to take acidophilus daily. We also used Gentian Violet in my baby's mouth. I know that you have to be careful with that stuff and not over use it so I would go by the advice of your pediatrician and/or a certified lactation consultant. My yeast infection got pretty bad and extremely painful and I had to be treated with an extremely long course of Diflucan. My case was unusual. It doesn't sound like yours has gotten too bad, so maybe if you do some things like use an antifungal cream and some vinegar and water, you will get rid of the yeast before it gets out of control. By the way, I still take acidophilus every day to help keep my body in balance. Good luck! :)

My first daughter had thrush and gave it to me. Whatever you do, don't let the nystatin run out before the baby is cured! You didn't say that it hurts to feed, so you may not have it yet. To keep it that way, put some nystatin on your nipples after each feeding. You really don't need to wash them with soap. It's yeast. Soap's not going to do anything for it.

Because it's yeast, take probiotics. Capsules are good. Yogurt is fine, too, but you can only get so much of that. Anyhow, probiotics will help keep you from getting it.

I never tried the gentian violet. I think I would do that if I had a next time. I used nystatin, but I kept running out before my baby was cured, she gave it to me (I wasn't putting it on my nipples), and in the end we both took diflucan. As in I was giving her the liquid stuff and I finally took a pill because it hurt so bad to nurse. That cured everything. But you're being smart. Preventing yourself from getting it is best. When my son had thrush I used a finger to put a coating of yogurt inside his mouth and this cleared it up pretty quickly. The yeast in the thrush is killed by the cultures in the yogurt.

seriously, I can't remember using anything ... I know I for sure used no "medicine." Like for any yeast/fungal infection (vaginal, breast, dandruff), I cut WAYYYY back on the sugar--it turns out (not surprising when you think about it) the yeastie-beasties love a high-sugar bloodstream.

Yogurt or acidophilis capsules I think I tried too ... they get into your system and replace the yeasties, or something. (Sorry to be so vague, I haven't had to deal with this for a while so I can't remember "why" they are recommended.)

So that's what worked for me. I've only had to do it maybe 5 times in the last ten years (two for thrush), but I have gone as far as to cut out not only sweets but fruits, until it clears up, when it's sticking around : P.

If you haven't had good results with the nystatin, it may be time to use Gentian Violet. It is becoming common for moms and babys to have a yeast (candida) that is resistant to nystatin.
Gentian Violet can be "painted" on your nipples just before you breastfeed and then you will give a treatment to both of you at the same time,
Gentian Violet 1% is available at Target Pharmacies for about $2---call first to see if they have it in stock.

My dtr also had thrush. We did the Nystatin but we had the problem of passing it back and forth. What finally did it for us is pro-biotics. You can get it in yogurt or pills or chewable for you and it comes in a powder or chewable for toddlers. Any "health food store" or "health food section" of a market should carry it. You CANNOT overdose on it but you do have to commit to taking it for about three months or so because it is a holistic cure that works with your bodies natural functions.

for me gentian violet, diet and wearing a clean bra worked. I cut down of my sugar in diet (just until it cleared up) I also ate acidophilus and yogurt (probiotics). I treated my nipples and baby's mouth with gentian violet 2 times a day for 4 days.
It's a little messy and the baby's mouth turns purple, but it's kind of funny.

Hi,

I had the same problem and someone told me to use vinegar (just plain vinegar - not apple cider) on my breasts in the shower and scrub with a soft brush. This did the trick for us. My daughter got cleared with the nystatin and the vinegar cleared me up.
