Watch out for older affordable apartments. My MIL rents the affordable older apartments & has had to move on 2 occasions due to tearing down & building new luxury condos.

About 10 ago I lived in a small complex at University and the Tollway. The units were cute. I had a one bedroom and it was affordable. It was mostly single professionals living there. Its a nice location - across the street from a track, and walking distance to Highland Park Village.

Can you define affordable? Is the focus on being in the school district?

The most affordable location in HP is in older apartments on Abbott near Hendeson. There are also rentals near SMU that are somewhat affordable. Rentals are getting hard to come by.

What is affordable? That is one of the priciest areas in Dallas, as I am sure you know.

Why are they looking specifically for that area?

The best way to get into a good rental is to know someone who knows someone in the industry. That said, i still don't know what "affordable" is to your friend. Get a good realtor who also deals with leasing.
