Anything Apple is going to be good!! The only reason people sell them is to get the newest thing not because something was wrong with it. She just won't have the latest model.
My DD has been wanting an iTouch for a long time, but they are so expensive! She is turning 10 and has proved that she can take care of her things so we wanted to surprise her this year.
The only iTouch we can afford is a refurbished last-year's model. We can get it from apple.com, so it has a one-year warranty and is guaranteed to have a new battery, new outer case, all accessories, new earphones and a new box.
It sounds great to me but my husband thinks that refurbished things aren't as good.
Have you ever bought anything refurbished and how was it? This is the only way she'd ever get an iTouch, and I think she will be happy and probably won't even know or care that it's refurbished!

I got my husband a refurbished Blackberry once. It lasted long enough for his free upgrade to kick in and get him a new I-phone. He is a gadget-hound and sometimes our budget demands he go refurb to get the tech he wants. That's part of being a grown-up.
I'd get her the refurb. It may not have as long a life, but it would be good to make sure that's what she wants. (Getting my son an I Touch convinced me to get I Phones for my husband and myself.)
Do it!I have bought an HP refurb and it was great. And Apple is so good about things on warranty, that even if something does go wrong, you just bring it in and they fix it. We have Apple computers! For a 10yo I think it's perfect!
it has the same warranty as the new ones from the stores unless you get the extended warranty. i would defnintely do it. you can get a brand new one that is a lemon just as easily as a refurbished one.
I have purchased two refurbished laptops and 3 refurbished ipods from apple. The give you the same warranty as a brand new one and you can choose apple care.
We haven't had one issue with the things we have purchased.
Definitely worth the discount:)
I never have but it comes with a warranty! I say go for it!
My kids are 2 and 3 and love my husband's ipad. We have talked about getting them a refurbished one to share. My husband has looked at a refurbished kindle for himself since our son dropped his original one by accident awhile back. I get where your husband is coming from-we all like new things, but I bet your daughter wouldn't even tell the difference especially since it is guaranteed to have so many new pieces. Go for it!

what happens if she drops it and the glass breaks? You just wasted your money. Our son bought one for himself with Christmas money that everyone gave him. He dropped it, and because we had it registered to us, Apple let us bring it in to the store and trade it for a new one, for $99. I know that sounds expensive, but I think it is worth it in the long run just in case something happens. If they will register a refurbished one to you, I would maybe think about it.
I wouldn't hesitate. Apple's refurbs are outstanding! I rarely buy anything new from them because their refurbished products are so pristine and such a good value.
Years ago I bought a refurbished iPod 3G, and now my 9yr old son uses it. It has had zero problems and I've gotten my moneys worth out of it.
I have an iPod touch 32G that I bought to take to Ukraine with our for our adoption, and I've had it over a year and my kids all love it, it was a great purchase. They use it while in waiting rooms, restaurants (tic tac toe!) and just for fun playing games since we don't have any gaming systems. I think at 10 she can handle it, just keep it at home or when you go somewhere together, no taking it to school... that is where things get lost/stolen.
When they are refurbished they have to go through a high count inspection check list. I've had both good luck and bad luck with refurbished Blackberry's but when I did get a bad one I knew the moment I turned it on that there was something wrong with it.
I have had no more trouble with refurbished electronics than first bought. Lately refurbished is all I buy, I am starting to look at them as slightly used cars, ya know, the last guy took the loss.
I bought my husband a refurb ipod touch for Val day and it works great we have had no problems at all. I f it wasn't for a few minor scrapes on the back ( put a cover on and you can't see them) you would never know it wasn't new.
My husband and I both have refurbished iPhones. I have had mine almost a year and we just got his. I would say go for it! :)
Hi,
My BIL and SIL bought a refurbished Apple laptop for their jr high age kids - they've had it over a year and it has been doing great. Considering that you would be getting this from Apple and it comes with a warranty, I would say it is worth it if it's the best way for you to surprise your little girl.
I love refurbs!! That's all I buy. Apple has the best warranty. It is the same as buying new and you can add the AppleCare to get an addition year. If something goes wrong during the warranty time, they give you a new one!
I have a iPod touch and the iPhone 4 both refurbs bought from the site! No probs with either. Been almost a year.
I have an HP refurbished laptop and it's awesome! It works great... I have had it for a year. Refurbished with an ipod means the company took it and basically put it back to factory condition (like new) and solved all the problems with it. That is an AWESOME deal to have a warranty, battery, etc. I will always buy refurbished from a reputable company if I can... it's cheaper and it's basically new. Is he a new things kind of person? Like if it's not new it's not good? As long as you put an invisible shield on it (I'd pay the $7 to have best buy install it) and then a case on it the glass won't break... my friend has an iphone and the invisible shield kept it from breaking (it did crack) but with a 1 year warranty they should replace it. Have you looked on craigslist? It's hit and miss but in Nov I found one in immaculate condition for a great deal and got it for my dad's christmas present... he loved it, he could care less if it's brand new or not.
I am using my refurbished iMac right now. Mac refurb items are usually great. They offer the exact same warranty (for the same price) as a brand new item.
I would go for it. Apple products are great. And she will love the iTouch. My almost 10 yr old daughter got hers for Xmas, and her brother (almost 13) is getting his this week. I actually ordered it online from Target, as their online price is $20 cheaper than the in store price for the exact same thing. So be sure you check online pricing as well. We ordered his on Thursday afternoon last week (or Friday? can't remember) and it should be here no later than Wednesday. :)
