Hi Mamas, I need your help,here's the problem: my almost 4 y.o. boy has a red spot on top of his penus, and when I say on top I mean around that little hole where pee-pee comes out (sorry for being graphic here). It's a flat, bright red, round spot and he will not let me touch it (I was trying to put some hydro-cortisone lotion to see if it cleared out, but couldn't). He is not circumcised (my choice) and still wears a diaper at night, his penus opens fine, so that is not the problem. Also he never complains about feeling itchy or hurt down there, he never told me anything about it. Any suggestion on what could it be and, especially, on how to get him to let me touch it??? Thanks in advance!
Thanks to all that responded to my post. We went to the ped and he said the penus is red because always wet with pee-pee. I am now struggling to get my son to open it up when I wash him and to let me put the cortisone on it twice a day fpr 10 days. The doc said it is only irritated now but it could have gotten infected. I am so glad I went. Thanks again mamas!

Call the nurse at your ped's office! I wouldn't put anything on it unless directed to do so by a doc. Good luck. Poor little guy.
In the future you really do need to get him used to you touching him all over, for medical reasons....explain it's private but OK if mommy, daddy & the doctor touch him.
My 4 year old son also had a red spot on his "wee-wee" (that's what we call it!) It wasn't in the exact same place - anyway I had an appointment already scheduled at the doctor the next day but I put Monistat on it (yeast infection cream I had in the cabinet) and by the time we got to the doctor the next day there was nothing there! The doctor said he didn't think it was jock itch, that he didn't know what it could have been, but "I won't argue with results"! It's worth a try and wouldn't hurt anything. My little boy hardly let me touch either, squirming all around. I just tried to tell him what I was doing and talked to him all through it and tried to do it as quick as possible!
My son did say it itched though. I guess if you try a few things and it's still there you might want to get a doctor to look at it. Hope he gets better soon!
Make an appointment with your doctor and have it checked out. That is your best bet.

I think you should take him to the doctor? If he didn't mention it to you how did you find out? It must be bothering him to point it out to you. There may be an internal infection manifesting itself on the outside. This is not normal and worthy of an appointment. I say this because I have 4 adult sons and never experienced this while raising them. I pray that all will turn out well for him. I agree with the other mom who answered to allow him to put the medication on the site making sure he washes his hands after the application. This would be wise, but there is no medicine as of yet. I strongly feel that you should not attempt to self diagnose this.I also agree with the mother about teaching him good touch bad touch. But it sounds to me that is not why he doesn't let you touch it. I think it is tender to the touch. How many of us get things like that on our bodies and we don't know it's there?
