Aquaphor is awesome!!! I use it for any skin irritation on the kids or me. You can get it at Target by the diaper cream - in a tube!
my granddaughter's cheeks have been bright red for going on 4 days now. they are very dry but dont seem to itch her at all. i tried vaseline yesterday but it doesn't seem to have helped at all. she is 3 years old. any suggestions??
thanks for all the anwers. i had stated that i put vaseline on her cheeks but i meant my daughter did. she is in phoenix and asked me ask the question because she cannot access this site at work and her internet isnt working at home. i have been singing the praises of this site.
i have forwarded the answers to her.
thanks again.

Did she have a fever just prior to the redness? If so, it's likely Fifth Disease, a virus that causes "slapped cheek" appearance. It is common in young children.
If she doesn't have a fever or anything, it could just be dry skin - my three year old has the exact same thing right now. Try Aquaphor, it works wonders. Also, they make a baby formula that is a little bit gentler and not so sticky if you can find that. Apply it a couple of times a day and then at bedtime and it will be gone soon.
if it's eczema, aquaphor/eucerin are good. I also love Aveeno. And we keep a tube of Bourdreaux's Baby Kisses around- it's SO great for their little faces. My son has eczema and it helps a lot (it's the same people that make Butt Paste Diaper Rash Cream).
could be chapped, could be fifths disease. if its fifths, its really not a big deal for her or anyone in the family UNLESS someone is pregnant. its very contagious and it can be very dangerous for pregnant women. so if she is around any preggos, i would get her checked and keep her away from them. otherwise, some vaseline or aquaphor should do it.
Keep up with the vaseline/aquafor... I actually use chapstick because it's the only thing on me at all times. If they're chapped or windblown, that will work, just give it time :) It could also be caused by teething or allergies, but that kind of dryness usually just needs a little TLC :)
You may want to check to see if she has eczema and get her some cream or start with Eucerin lotion or a special eczema lotion you can easily find at babies rus or Target in the baby section for bath and body.
Use some Aquaphor. it really helps.
It could very well be fifth's disease. Here's a link to give you some info:
I know this one! Ive got four daughters and all but one has gone through this (especially in the winter time). I used a lotion specifically made for little one's red cheeks. I use Mustela face lotion. But, there may be other brands that have lotion specifically for this. I'm just a big Mustela fan. It is a bit expensive, but can be found at Babies R Us.
