Recurring Ovarian Cysts?

Hi Mamas,

I am looking for answers and others' experiences with ovarian cysts. I had laproscopic surgery 3.5 weeks ago to remove 3 cysts (1 at 11cm, 2 at 3cm). My doctor decided it was best to drain the cysts but leave them partially intact to (hopefully) preserve function (large cyst on the right all fluid, small cysts on the left one was hemmorrhagic).

I began my cycle about 10 days after the surgery. I am now 5 days past ovulation and having a lot of cramping. I felt the ovary or cyst on the right flutter yesterday. Can these cysts be filling up to giant size again so soon? Has anyone had one whopper cyst come right after the removal of another? Did you require another surgery or were you able to control the cysts with birth control?

My doctor did suggest that if I were not going to try to get pregnant right away I should start a low dose pill. I am TTC, but not sure how long I try before I give up and go on the pill to shrink these things. I'd like to avoid a second surgery, and I am not ready to lose an ovary.

What can I do next?

Personally, I think your doctor is a quack. I also suffered from ovarian cysts, but my doctor (OB/GYN) removed them all. I never heard of a doctor leaving a cyst, and of course you'll get pain if they leave them in there, that's what causes the cramping. My sister and I both had them and both doctor's removed them and both of us never got them again. If you are in the Lake Forest Hospital area, I can give you my doctor's name. He was great...and I got pregnant with no problem after surgery. I also wanted to add that my sister's cyst was a size of a grapefruit and still had 4 children...so there's hope. Good Luck!

There is a way to help control ovarian cysts by changing your diet. I read the book "Healing Syndrome O" and it really helped me a lot when I was trying to conceive. I too had 3 large cysts on one of my ovaries while I was pregnant with my second child. They did not operate on them because I was pregnant, but my doctor would have operated if they got any bigger. The smallest was 2 cm and the largest was 8 cm. When I was 8 months pregnant, the cysts just collapsed on their own. I would definitley read the book and try modifying your diet to help. Good luck!
