Recommendation for a Smaller, Contemporary Church in the Seattle Area.

Hi! My husband and I have been “church shopping” for about 4 months now and still have not found our match. We were hoping to stay on the peninsula (West Seattle) but it’s looking like we may have to broaden our search. We are looking for a more contemporary, smaller (stained glass and pews scare my hubby) coffee shop style christian church, preferably with real-to-life sermons and of course good music. It is also important for it to have good children's programs. Neither my husband nor I have been active members of a church in the past but as our family is growing we are hoping to find a church that offers a real community that our family can be part of as we raise our child(ren). I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Maybe look into Quest, it's in Interbay. i havent been there, but what i have heard about it sounds a lot like what you are looking for. It's would be an easy commute from West Seattle.

My husband and I have been attending Highlands Community Church in Renton, just off of 405 Exit 5, for 4 years now. Might be a bit of a drive for you but I can't recommend it enough. The teaching is excellent, the music is good and the childrens ministry is like no other I've seen. It is a little on the big side but check into their LifeStages programs - people in your same stage of life and a much smaller setting to get to know people & find that community you're looking for.

Check out the Seattle Church of Christ. Although they meet at 2555 8th Ave. W (Queen Anne), they have a great group of West Seattle young families that are well connected. They talk about real life concerns, care a lot for each other, and the music is great.

We've heard a lot about - and visited once and were impressed - a small church called Sanctuary, in the Greenwood area. There was a great sense of community there, our children had small-group, excellent classes/care, and I sensed a real honesty there. Once a month they gather after their church service at a pizza shop for conversation. And they actually own and run a coffee shop, which is what triggered me to respond to your post. Their building was burned a few weeks/months ago, and when we visited they were in a different spot - so I'd check out their website: www.sanctuarycrc.org.

We already have our own church, just enjoy visiting others sometimes. We'll go back to that one again soon.... Highly recommneded.

All the best in your church search!
