i always recommend keeping a nice stockpile of SINGLE INGREDIENT meds on-hand. the combo products can get confusing, and therefore dangerous, some may not realize that brand x cough and cold has tylenol in it, and then give additional tylenol. my husband is a pharmacist, and this is the way we do things, and the way he always recommends, plus you're not treating symptoms that aren't there either.
we usually keep(and almost all are generic):
tylenol - generic
advil/motrin - generic
benadryl - generic
delsym - brand *this is the cough med
sudafed - brand(NOT sudafed PE, get the kind you have to get from behind
the pharmacy counter - no RX needed)
mucinex - brand
additionally, with xmas just around the corner, i'd prob run the little fella in to the pedi today, sometimes it's best to not suppress a cough, just depends on the cough and the illness. hope the little guy is feeling better soon! i've had some kind of chest funk/cold/sinus garbage for 9 weeks now...
