Recent Birth Experiences at Presby Dallas?

I gave birth to my daughter at Presby Dallas in 2005. I am now 5 months pregnant with Baby #2 and was wondering about recent birth experiences at Presby Dallas.

What did you like/didn't like?

In 2005, they charged $100/night for a private room (which I gladly paid). Now, I understand all the rooms have been redone and are all private, but they offer two levels of "nicer" rooms. What do you get/how much are they?

How does the in-room food work?

Do they do the baby baths in the mom's room now?

How nice/helpful are the nurses? (I didn't have great experiences with most of them in 2005 and I hope things have changed, but if they haven't, I'll deal with it.).

I heard they don't offer pacifiers anymore? Not a huge deal, I just find it interesting. How do they calm all those crying babies? :)

Thanks for any info you can provide to help provide me with more information!

What can I do next?

We had a great experience there!! Our son is 17 months old now. He had to stay in the NICU and special care unit for somethime. The nurses were wonderful and so helpful. Our expeience may be differnet because we were in the special care unit, but we were given pacifiers and we were encouraged to give baby the bath ourselves while the nurse was in our room with us. We did have a private room for 100 more a night.

No totally on-topic, but I gave birth at Allen Presby and they are a baby-friendly hospital, meaning pro-breastfeeding, and they did not offer pacifiers and didn't send me home with one. I think when they are newborns, they cry because they are hungry...they don't need a paci, they need a breast.

I gave birth at Presby Dallas a year ago.

I had mixed experiences with the nurses, both in delivery and postpartum. I had one WONDERFUL nurse during delivery, and one AWFUL one. I wish I could remember their names. Postpartum all the nurses were fine. The overnight one was really good, the others were just ok.

All rooms are private, no upcharge.

I delivered in the evening, so they just brought me dinner in my room afterwards. The next day meals just showed up - I never really knew what or when they were going to be there. That day I receive something to fill out to request my meals for the next day...I guess I arrived to late on my first day for this request. The food thing was very frustrating - the food was good, but not really knowing when/what I was going to get bothered me. There were times when I got REALLY hungry.

No pacis. Bring your own if you want to use one. Also, know that they strongly encourage rooming in. The baby will be with you unless they need to run tests or meet with the pedi.

I don't remember anything about baths. Maybe they did it in the nursery?

HTH!

I had my son there in 2008. It was ok. I too paid the $100 per night for the private room. At that time, I don't think they had their "pro baby" initiative yet so we did get pacis, baths were at the nursery. After I delivered my son, he didn't come back into my room for 4-5 hours later. I don't remember the meals and whether or not my husband got a meal as well. I did remember being able to hear everything going on. I could hear the baby next door crying all night and the nurses and people in the hallway.

In 2010, I had my daughter at Presby Plano. Much better experience. It's a newer hospital. There was no upcharge for a standard private room. Here, they have their pro baby-mama bonding. There wasn't a big thing for the paci, but they insisted on keeping the baby in the room with you all the time. The baby pretty much never left my side. The baby nurse did her first bath in the room a few hours after delivery. They have "dine on demand" there. I really liked that. It's like room service. You order off the menu whenever you are ready to eat. You can order whatever you want. They also give you vouchers for your husband so he can eat as well.

I just delivered my third child 2 weeks ago at Baylor Frisco (my doctor moved from presby plano to baylor frisco). This is also a brand new hospital and very nice and clean. Their nurses were the best out of the three hospitals. They were so nice and helpful. Baby stays with you as well. As for pacis- they have them but you have to sign whether or not you want to use them or not. I allowed it. They also have quiet time during the afternoons where they allow mom and baby to rest and try to not intrude in your room if not necessary. (plano had this well). I like this too. They don't have a dine on demand food service here. They just bring you and your husband a tray at 7, 12 and 6. I didn't get to pick what I wanted to eat.. they just brought it so it was always a surprise. Food was ok. They do give you a steak and lobster dinner the night before you leave the hospital. It was actually pretty tasty. Baby also gets a nice blanket that has Baylor Frisco embroided by it and Dad gets a scrub shirt with the baby's footprints on it. Just a few perks. The one thing that was kinda weird is that they have cameras in all the rooms. They say its so they can see you at night and know when you are awake so they don't have to come in a wake you up to check vitals etc. I'm not so fond of that. Oh... rooms are really nice and quiet. I could not hear anything going on outside my room. I kept asking the nurse if there were alot of patients here because I didn't hear much going on. They also have good snacks and coffee in their refreshment area.

That's a quick run down of my hospital experiences. good luck~!

oh and btw- Medical Center Plano has BEAUTIFUL postpartum upgraded suites! check out their website. It looks like an upscale hotel room. I'm not sure how much they cost though..

We had a great experience at Presby Dallas in 2009. We were in a single-room but can't remember the upcharge. No baby baths in the room; the nurses did that in the nursery (which was fine, because my wife really just needed to sleep as much as possible between 3-hour feedings). The nurses were great and especially the lactation consultant Candi. I can't remember if there were pacis or if we even needed one. We would definitely return there for our next baby!
