My son swallowed my wedding band. The doctor wasn't worried at all. 9I have very small fingers, if they were larger it would have been a concern.) It came out fine.

Her poop will be fun! Don't worry, mama. It will come out the other end.

Yeah just a couple months ago my 4 year old swallowed a marble (well, those flat glass things people put in the bottom of clear vases). It took almost 2 weeks to pass and it was a really unpleasant 2 weeks of catching and sifting through every BM with rubber gloves and chopsticks... ew.

Kids do it all the time. No worries.

She will be just fine. Just as Sara L stated, no one will do anything other than what we are doing and that is to tell you it will pass in her stool. Isn't it fun how many gray hairs we can get with children :)

I know your worried, try to relax. Write this down so you can remember to tell her when she gets older how she scared Momma so bad because she swallowed a button.

Once her doctors office opens give a call to the nurse. See if they have any other suggestions or see if there is anything you can do to help her system move a little faster. Take care

I understand how this could worry you.... but she is going to be fine. Like you've heard, this will pass naturally and as long as she is feeling/acting fin,e there is nothing to panic over. Even if you were to take her to the hospital, they will only take action if she had swallowed a battery (due to the acid it could leak) or anything magnetic. Hang in there, she'll be okay :) Best wishes!

No sharp edges. I had a cat swallow a dime and this is what ended up happening. Had to watch her for 3 days. had to watch that the dime made it through her system and out her but. When it didnt they did an exray and found it had jammed in an area and the vet had to do surg to get it out. So as long as she is breathing there probably is no immediate issues. You can take her to the hospital and have them do an exray and find it for you. Depending what it is made of they could probaby give you something to move it along faster

I swallowed a penny when I was a kid - still here. If she didn't choke on it, there is only one place for it to go - the same place as all her food - to the tummy:)
Deep breaths. No worries:)

Post again and let us know what happened. I'm sure the doctor's office will say it's going to be OK, but for your peace of mind, do call them and ask. Since the button is just plastic, it should not be a problem.

Also, is she usually a child who puts things into her mouth? If so, be sure to babyproof against that. Get down on her level and remove anything that could be swallowed. Go through her toys and remove things with small parts. Get rid of anything with small magnets, which can be fatal if a child swallows more than one at a time--they can stick together in the intestines. Ensure that anything small that you adults use regularly (buttons, thimbles etc. in a sewing kit, your jewelry, game pieces, etc.) are all put in places she cannot reach and in containers she can't open. If she really is an explorer who is into opening cabinets etc., definitely get child-proof locks for cabinets and ensure she cannot get at household cleaners and chemicals.

Remember the basic rule -- any object that can fit into or through a paper towel roll's cardboard tube is a choking hazard. She may not be an "oral" kid who puts things into her mouth a lot, but it only takes one larger object to create a problem. This isn't to scare you! This is to help you be prepared if she is a child who likes to experiment with her mouth, as many children do.

She'll be fine - it's small, round with no sharp edges, and it's not going to break up inside her. There's really no place for it to get stuck - the tissues are pretty smooth in the esophagus. She'll poop it out, as others have said. I wouldn't do anything different from your normal routine. If she eats her usual food, maintains her usual activity, and all her bodily functions are routine, the button will pass easily and neither of you will notice it. The one thing you don't want to do is give her a lot of foods that will bind her up and slow down her intestines or clog them up. Go easy on cheese and dairy (you don't eliminate them entirely, just don't overdo it), and keep up with the fruits & vegetables and liquids.

As fun as it is going to be....you'll feel better if you put on some rubber gloves and mush up her pooh until you find the button. If it has not passed in a couple of days call the doc again. But it may not even show up on an X-ray if it is not metal.

If it was me, I'd go to the hospital/doctor. If it's nothing and they say it will pass on it's own, that's great. But, if they need to do a procedure to remove it, you want it done now rather then in a few days. Plus, going to the hospital/doctor will give you peace of mind too.

My daughter swallowed a button battery when she was three and after a rush trip to the ER, was told to mash her poop until we were certain the battery had come out. That was a job I DO NOT want to repeat so to speed up the "process" we began giving her laxatives. The battery did eventually pass, just in time too since it had begun to corrode.

Since the button she swallowed was plastic I wouldn't worry so much. Just keep an eye on her bowel movements and her behavior. If the stools become bloody that will be a sure sign the button is hung up somewhere. Other signs would be belly pain, fever, tenderness, etc. In the meantime make sure she is getting plenty of fluids and fiber. A few extra trips to the bathroom is less invasive than a scope or surgery.
