Did you hear about the Chinese diver who after winning gold found out her grandparents died three years ago? Just throwing that out there for some humor and perspective. Okay that and I am having trouble getting over that headline. :-/
So apparently job loss, cancer, surgeries, chemo and mental breaks weren't enough for my family. Oh noooo, now let's add to the list. My dad has been in the hospital for almost a week. He was having severe chest pains and shaking. Since he is a large man they assumed heart attack. Well, they were wrong. He began to run a high fever so then they thought, infection. Nope wrong again. So after several days and many more tests, they think the have come up with a conclusion. He was bitten by a Black Widow spider and had a severe reaction. There is no test to 100% prove that it is the right answer, but as of now, it's the only thing that seems to fit.
I am thankful that we have all made it out of this alive, but COME ON! Enough already! ARRRRGGGHH!
I stayed home (they are out of state) because I wasn't sure if what he had was contagious. If I went I would have had to taken my three year old with me. I was afraid that she might catch it. Well, I guess I should have just went, so now I feel guilty. Sigh...
That's my rant for today. I haven't been on here in a while. Did I miss anything good?
LOL about the nurse checking him out. When he first came in they thought that he might have a tick borne illness. So they DID have to check him out all over. However, it wasn't a pretty nurse who did it, it was a big burly dude named Shane. What's funny is that it was my sister who actually noticed that he had a blister on his shoulder. We think this may actually have been the bite sight.

Oh wow, you have been through the wringer! I hope your dad feels better soon and that your family is finally over with this season of trouble!
Hugs!
yep - Chick-Fil- A chat and who knows what.....
So Sorry, will keep you in prayer.... The Lord is up to something Good in all this, I hope you find it soon as a new story is written......
I'm there too. I can't take much more "character building" I was telling my hispanic friend my recent list of terrible things and she said "we have a saying in Mexico".... then she told me in Spanish "all you need now is a dog to come piss on your leg." The next day I walked into a trap at work and thought, "well, it's offical, a dog has just pissed on my leg."
Well...one can check for bites. Next time you talk to him as if he got the pretty nurse to stripped him and gave him a good look over.
Then again, it would come off as funny with my family, not sure how yours would take it.
Good luck to you. "Sometimes when it rains, it pours."
Never utter the words "What next?' or "It can't get any worse." Because as soon as you do, the next will happen and it WILL be worse!
Like B., I'm grateful that, for now at least, life is a bit boring.
I can't believe that. The other day I was closing my gate at my house, and there was a big black spider on it - I got down and looked at it and sure enough it had the red hourglass on it, plain as day. So we killed it but I was shocked. Never had heard of a black widow down here! So everyone please be aware! So scary! I am in the Acreage - just north of Royal Palm. I let my neighbors know, but everyone, be careful!
I know how you feel!!!!! So here is what I do. Each morning I tell myself "This too shall pass". Then I have the largest cup of coffee. Oh heck, lets be honest here I don't bother with a cup anymore I just drink the whole pot. Then I start the day. I do whatever needs to be done during the day. Today was spent with my father in-law at the doctor. I left at 9:00 and got home at 3:00 today. Then every evening we have dinner with my FIL and spend sometime with him and do what he needs help with around his house. Now here's the part you have to pay attention to... once we are back home it is time for one large drink!! and yes I am talking about the adult kind!!!! If that does not do the the trick then I know it is time for a good cry in the shower!!!! I hope things start looking up for you soon. :)
Oh Man!
Every time I think of you from now on, I'm going to be extremely grateful for my relatively boring bland vanilla life (and Knock on Wood in the hopes that it continues).
I guess you wouldn't want to tempt Fate by saying 'Everything that CAN happen HAS happened' and relax.
Because right about then a meteor might crash through your roof.
It's time I re-read my copy of 'The World According to Garp'.
(((((hug)))))
You need to treat yourself to something- anything. You deserve it after all you have been through! Don't feel guilty. I'm just relieved that your dad is going to be okay!
Weekend is almost here! That makes me feel better! :) Glad to have you back!
@ Dana T: You made me laugh! (That would come off as funny in my family, too.)
Holy cow!! A black widow?? Wow.
Sounds like nowhere to go but up, right?
(Doesn't it always amaze you when there is a patient lying there with specific symptoms and all they can offer is their "best guess"?)
