Ready to RUN from MIAMI!!!

i have pretty much lived in Miami my whole life. I had a brief stint in Orlando but I ended up moving back to Miami. Alot of my family is here though I dont have much family support. I am married, of 3 yrs, to a wonderful husband, with 3 beautiful children(ages 10, 2,and 9 mnths). We do have a successful business wherein do event decor, stage props, murals, home transformations, mural, face/body painting etc. And I have a degree in Pyschology.

My dilema is that I am TIRED of miami. You can only enjoy this place if you are wealthy. The crime is rediculously high. And though crime is everywhere, its much less in other areas of the world. My husband was in the military and he has traveled the world. I am ready to move away so that we can see seasons change, raise my kids in a less hectic environment, and be able to enjoy life without so much stress that Miami brings.

My question is where is a good place to relocate, that has a chill environment, good schools, decent traffic, and decent weather? I dont have much family support here so I'm not so much worried about moving to where no one else is. I do, however, have lots of family in the Atlanta area but i was told the traffic is HORRIBLE!!!

HELP!!!

What can I do next?

I am sick and tired of SoFla too . . . love the weather and the water but the rest of it drives me crazy.

Sigh.

Texas sounds great. And I suspect we could afford a much larger, nicer home with some acreage.

I would miss my ocean . . .

I would probably move to Texas. I was looking at the Real Estate listings there and was SHOCKED at the amount of house that you can get for the money in Dallas. Much better than Pittsburgh thats for sure. For the price I payed for my house I could be living quite large in TX thats for sure. However they do have the heat which would be as bad as FL I would think.

Do google searches such as "best cities to raise a family"

I had the exact same feelings about Phoenix. I needed to get out of there.

After lots of research, and wanting to stay in the Midwest, we decided to move to a suburb of des Moines. It is everything I wanted. Seasons ( although I just found out winter can be more icy than snowy), not really any mosquitos though, low crime, great schools, kids play outside a lot with a great neighborhood. The town is great, typical Midwest with everything we would need and parks everywhere. Parks that include fishing, playground, sports. It is green everywhere, people are so nice and friendly......they leave cars running unlocked!!! So such a pleasant culture shock from Phoenix.

Traffic is not bad....comparatively. It is slower paced here....except for all the kids in and out of the house which is great!

I am in love with the area and we've only been here 4 weeks and haven't discovered it all yet.

I soo get how you are feeling and I say do it. Research and just go for it!

I don't know from personal experience, but I've heard Austin, TX is fantastic! If I could move somewhere warmer, Austin is where I would go.

I am just below Orlando and I like it here. I am close enough to everything but not caught up in the tourist garbage. I have been to Atlanta and I didn’t like it, but I don’t like city living (I grew up just outside Newark, NJ). Georgia is hot too in the spring and summer and they have been in drought conditions for over a year.

I don't know of any perfect place to relocate. I did live in Asheville, NC for a while in the early 90's and it was a very nice small city with mild winters.

Thats funny because I am always telling my husband that we are going to move to Florida because I don't like cold weather! LOL! But other than that, Colorado is pretty nice and there are two school districts in particular that are very good. We have all the seasons, and really each season is fairly mild comared to some other places. Colorado is very into being FIT. So that is nice, there is lots of skiing, hiking, camping etc. Lots of stuff to do year round. Right now in the news it probably seemed like all of Colorado was on fire, but it really wasnt, so dont worry about that.

I honestly dont know how the traffic compares to other parts of the country. Going to Denver in the morning can be a pain for sure but during the non -rush hour times it does not seem too bad. Good luck!

I live in Round Rock near Austin, TX. It's the 2nd fastest growing city in the US (of those large than 100,000). Generally most people here feel safe and satisfied with the quality of life. Traffic has gotten worse since the city has grown, but it's not bad compared with Austin. And Austin's not quite as huge and overwhelming to me as Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio .

I lived in Round Rock Tx, (right next to Austin) and I quite enjoyed it there... but I am a very small-town girl, and it was too fast paced for me...

I am now living near Chattanooga Tn, and I LOVE it here! The climate is nice, the people are friendly, and (from what I have heard... My DD is too young for school yet...) the school system is decent. I live in a smaller town outside Chattanooga, so it has the pace I like... but is close enough to the bigger cities (Chattanooga, Nashville...) that when I want a taste of the city it's easy to get. :)

We love the Plano/Allen area of Texas. (Northern Burb of Dallas)

Yes the weather is hot but I prefer heat over cold anyday.

There is so much to do, I love being within an hour to 2 major airports and you can be on either coast within a couple of hours.

Plano schools are excellent (you have to know where to live to be in the exemplary ones)

People are friendly, hardly anyone in my area are native Texan, everyone has moved here from somewhere.

Texas has just been rated as a number 1 place for businesses. We have not seen the economic downturn like much of the nation, of course we've seen some, just not critical. Granted, some areas of TX and outskirts of Dallas are hurting.

We do have heavy traffic but I understand it is nothing like Atlanta or Houston

Austin is a beautiful place as well.

Depending on where you work, Novato CA was nice, but the traffic cold e horrible if you had to go too far - only one major road. But LOVED it!
