Hubby & I are in the final stages of our In-Vitro & have started the progestrone injections in the behind. Does anybody have any remedies for the sore upper hip ? It feels like a charlie horse and/or black & blue area. I've heard that a heating pad will alieviate some of it, but, I don't want to interrupt the benefit of the injection. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

What can I do next?

I just did my third ivf. My butt is much more sore, faster this time around. You can try ice first, then heating pad after. I also rub the injection site afterwards for awhile. Best of luck. We got lucky and ivf 2 and hoping to again.

Hang in there! It is all well worth it. I went through IVF but did not need the progesterone shots. My friend did and her comfort was a frozen bag of peas on the rear end. It seemed to work for her! Who is your doctor may I ask?

Two things......TAke a look at PAIN FREE WOMEN by Pete Egoscue. He addressed MANY pain issues women have realted to pregancy as well as pre & post issues.

In addition, you really want to educate yourself about the effects of nutrition and conception! STAY AWAY FROM ALL PROCESSED FOODS, CHEMICALS, DYES, SUGAR, etc.

Hi A.!

I've done progesterone shots with both of my pregnancies...and this is what I've found works the best. Pull up the oil in the syringe and wrap the syringe (not the needle) in a hot towel and let sit for about 10 min. Heat up wet wash cloths in the microwave and massage the injection area for about 10 min prior to the shot. Then, swab the area with alcohol and inject. Reheat the washcloths and massage the area after the shot for about 10 min as well. Then, apply heating pad to injection site. My husband always did the washcloth massaging.

I had so much pain from those harpoon shots and a nurse told me to do this and it was so much better. She also had me alternate hips with every shot. She said all the heat actually helped the progesterone get into my system and not "sit like a lump" in my hip.

I hope this helps and I sure hope this IVF round is successful for you. Best of luck!

I went through in-vitro 4 times and I'm only 25 with no known fertility problems...so DON'T GIVE UP! Finally am 5 1/2 months pregnant (never thought it would happen). I tried a bunch of things to try and make the prog. shot less painful but unfortunately nothing really helped for me. I know how sore it gets...I feel for ya. I used to numb my hip before getting the shot and found that it didn't really decrease the pain of the shot so I just stopped. The soreness lingers for a while once your done but the good news is...it eventually goes away! Thank Goodness and GOOD LUCK!

We did in-vitro 2 times and it worked on my second cycle which was a frozen one. The progesterone shots in oil are the worst. My husband would put the hottest water he could stand out of the tap on a wash rag and hold that on the injection site after he gave me the shot. The warm water in the shower is also a good temporary relief. Unfortunately, there is not anything to offer more permanent relief. And if your cycle is successful, you have to take it for like the first 12 weeks or so. Then it hurts and iches, but at that point I just dealt with it because it is well worth it. The very best of luck to you in your cycle!

When you are in the warm shower, stand backwards and let the warm water hit your hip/butt area for a minute or two. Then take the heel of your hand (where the wrist meets your hand) and knead and massage the area where the injection is. It helps it feel good, and also it helps dispense the oil better under the skins.

Good luck to you and your husband. We're ivf-ers ourselves. Who is your doctor?

I had in-vitro which resulted in triplet girls that are now 5 years old. I found that rubbing the area after each injection helped break up the progesterone somewhat. i also switched hips each night. I don't think I actually found anything that completely got rid of the lump or pain, but I do remember this helping. It was worth every bit of the uncomfortable times for sure!!
good luck!

Hi A.. Good luck with your in-vitro cycle. I've been there before (twice)! My husband gave me the shots and at first would pinch the skin to give me the shot but then realized he needed to be stretching it instead. I don't know if that would make a difference or not. I think rubbing the area afterwards to help disburse the oil helps as well. You might also try warming it up a bit before injecting it just my holding the syringe in your hand. This helps to thin the oil some. On our second cycle, the PIO we used was thinner than the first time and it really didn't bother me. I can't quite remember but it might have been in peanut oil or a different type of oil.

I wish you the best of luck!

A friend of mine did all that stuff and just so you have a thought she started getting acrapuncture (sp) and after years and years of trying (even a sister backing out of having one for her) finally got pregnant while doing that at your same age. She now has been blessed with a little healthy girl. Good luck to you.

If your husband is giving you the shot tell him to push the serum in slowly. Once you get the needle in, its in but pushing the drug in slowly rather than quickly really helps. I did progesterone injections myself and used to give a lot of shots to fertility patients. People actually requested me because they said my shots didn't hurt. Good luck with everything!

I went through in-vitro myself (although my son is now 4 years old) and remember the pain as well. I seem to recall using ice at times. It's not a permanent fix; however it numbs the pain for a bit. Best of luck to you with your in-vitro process and my thoughts are with you for a VERY Positive outcome!
