Hello.... Just a quick question. My 14 mo daughter has a red rash around her mouth. Could this be from teething or from a cold/runny nose? My two older children never had this...she is getting her back molers and has a runnny nose. Any thoughts? thanks.....:)

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
My 7 year old got it all the time, we tried everything to make it better, changing soaps, and stuff. We finally figured out that he alwaya got it when his teeth were coming in. It most probably is that, though you want to make sure with his ped. that its not allergic reaction to something.

Hi A.-

I'm in West Roseville too. I have heard of little ones getting rashes while teething, maybe a stress reaction? To rule out allergies you might watch and see if it flares up after a particular meal or when you change her diaper if it's red/rashy around her anus. Good luck!

Hi A.,

My sun had rashes around his mouth as well from access slober/drooling. If you are truly concerned, just ask your pediatrician. They'll know...that way you don't have to make guesses about allergies.

Vaseline works just to keep it from drying out.

The rash around the mouth could be from excess slober from teething or cold, but it could also be the signs of a milk allergy. Try taking her off of milk for a week or two to see if it goes away. You can use soy milk, or soy based formula as a milk subsitute. I had my daughter on soy formula until she was three because of her milk allergy - went to soy milk later.

My son gets that from eating acidic foods, such as tomato sauce, etc.

Hi A.,

This can also be from food sensitivities. Gluten is notorious for causing rashes on the skin. I notice eczema flares up more in the winter too.
