try Lansinoh. lanalin ointment usd for cracked niples, it may help heal and keep the area protected from teething drool. My son also gets these small rashes arond his mouth when he is teething
good luck
My 14 month old son has had a bumpy red rash around his mouth for the last few months. I have tried Aquafor and perscription ointment from the Dr., but nothing seems to help. Is this common? Is there some other remedy I can use to help it go away? I was told that it may be alergies or from teething. Any information would be great! Thanks!
Thanks to everyone with all the wonderful advise! I am going to start with eliminating Whole Milk and try Soy for a few days to see if things change. If that doesn't work I will try other foods that he eats a lot. I thought it may be the citric fruits, so I eliminated them, but he still has the rash. I will let you all know how he does from not drinking whole milk. Thanks again everyone!!! Keep sending your thoughts though...thanks!

I make a product in my essential oil line that is great for calming skin irritation. I call it "Rash Relief" and it is one of my best selling items. Take a look on my website: www.mccluckfarms.com (we are an organic farm).
Good luck!

does he use a pacifier? sometimes drool and the paci make a rash...or it could be yeast infection.
My daughter constantly had a red rash around her mouth and it was mostly from teething and from chewing/sucking on her hands all the time. The most we could do is try to keep the area dry and the rash would go away.
Hi, I am experiencing the same thing!!! My son is 1 year old this Saturday and we have not figured out what is causing the rashes on his chin and upper lip. We did a blood test allergy and it showed that he was allergic to egg white but we haven't given him anything. We've been dealing with this for 1-2 months now. We've been putting OTC Cortizone to keep it from getting worse. We have tired 3 kinds of steroid prescription medicine and antibiotic. It would completely clear up but after 2-3 days, it would come back. My son also scratches it so it becomes worse, even bleeds at times. The doctor said it is eczema (he has some on his body) so it gets itchy. We moisturize with aquaphor. We are seeing a dermatologist and allergist tomorrow to dig deeper. I feel your pain and I hope you find the solution too.
It is probably an allergy. Just keep track of and limit foods for about a week and I bet you can figure out what the allergy is. Then just cut it out of his diet.

It's probably due to being moist all the time. My daughter had this, but she used a pacifier, so the moisture was always there. We just put some vasaline on the skin to block the wetness and it cleared up. Best of luck!
My daughter has had the same thing the last few weeks. My mom told me that I would get the same rash when I was a baby when I had too much acidic foods/juices in my diet. I took her off juice, fruits, tomatoes, etc and the rash looks like it is clearing up... Totally anecdotal, but possibly what is going on with your little one...Hope he gets better soon!
Hi S.,
If he is teething and around his mouth is wet alot from drool it can cause a little rash. My friend's son gets a red bumpy rash around his mouth when he eats strawberries. I agree that you should evaluate what he eats to eliminate an allergy.
Sincerely,
L.
My little on had the samething from about 11mos to 13mos... I think it was from teething...it has went away. But her skin turns red around her month when she eats oranges and anything made of tomatoes...I was told it is a reaction to the acid in those foods... that has almost gone away too... I bet it could be one of those two things...:)
My son's lips got redish and a rash around the rim. Turned out being an allery to "red" in foods. No more Tropical Fruit Punch, very little ketchup, no red juices.
Has your son been eating strawberries???
When my son was younger, he would get a similar rash when eating S/berries. Just wondering??? I have found that rashes like this, around the mouth, have always been related to food consumption.
I would google food allergies and the elimination process of finding out what food he may be allergic too. My grandson gets that and we figured out it was avocado. It was pretty easy to figure out since he didn't eat avocado very often. If he has the rash continually he may be allergic to a food he has regularly so that's a good place to start. Did you introduce any new foods around the time it started? Lots of luck!

My son had this also, when he was teething, the area around his mouth would be constantly wet from the drool and then a red rash would form. We just put Cortizone cream with aloe on it everyday and it seemed to keep it at bay until the major teething stage was over. Although I'm not sure if that is the same problem with your son. Good luck!
What Elizabeth said, and to add to that, it could be a type of eczema and only a doctor can prescribe something for it after diagnosis. A baby I know had that on his cheeks, and they tried everything, but only a dermatologist can really tell you.
I agree w/all the other moms suggestions but I also say take him back to your ped & let him/her know that the previous script. didn't work. You may also ask to get a refferal to dermatologist &/or get him tested for allergies.
Sounds like teething rash. My son is 13mo and gets the same thing. I use SebaMed lotion. It changes the Ph of skin back to neutral (5.5). You can find it on the internet. It is a german product. I put it on his face and within hours the rash is gone. My sister-in-law used hydrocortizone on my niece. I prefer to not over use steriods on my child.
Our second child had the same rash around his mouth. For him it's an allergic reaction. The biggest culprits were citrus fruit and tomatoes. But many other foods also cause it for him, to varying degrees.
Allergy testing is usually unreliable at that age. Many doctors won't even test until age 3. I would recommend a food elimination trial. If its an allergy and the rash is pretty constant, it is probably something he is eating daily or at least several times per week. Try to think back to new foods that he started eating regularly around the time the rash started. Keep eliminating foods (temporarily reducing the variety of what he eats) and see if it goes away.
Also, if you switched him to whole milk when he turned one, it could be a dairy allergy. Our youngest did not react to formula, but developed a rash on his face (forehead and cheeks) soon after we switched him to whole milk. After three months of taking foods back out of his diet without seeing any improvement, we switched him back to formula and the rash went away.
Good luck!

I'll bet your son is lactose intolerant - take him off all dairy products and I bet the rash will disappear within a week.
Hello, my son had some rough skin (tiny bumps) on the side of his chin and I took him to the Dr. and they thought it to be some sort of fungus due to his skin staying wet in that area. I used Tinactin (athletes foot cream) and it cleared up. Use it for one week every day 2x's...if it doesnt go away try something else. If that doesnt work lavender essential oil diluted in cold pressed Olive oil. 10 drops essential oil to 1 oz. of olive oil.
Best wishes to you, good luck on number two!!
Hi S.,
That is no fun--for you or for him! It could be any number of things, but I would definitely be considering the possibility of a food allergy or intolerance. You might consider doing an elimination of the most common allergens like wheat, corn, soy, nuts, dairy, citrus, strawberries and chocolate. I would also avoid any kind of food coloring or preservatives, as they can cause reactions, too.
