some diapers cause the rash as well! an ointment called butt paste works wonders and clears up the rash in days! My 5 month old recently got one that started blistering and that paste cleared it up before I knew it!

I agree with the baking soda in the tub. That works great. I would actually sit mine in the sink with a ton of baking soda. She loved it!

But to actually TREAT the condition, start giving her oral probiotics. The ones I use are listed here:

This will control the yeast from the inside out, rather than waiting for the infection to manifest and then treating it to control it.

There is, sadly, no good place to find these around here. GNC does not carry them. I recommend Jacob's Herb shop on Hwy 50. If they don't have this exact brand they will have something you can use.

Sit her in a tub of warm water and baking soda. Use A&D ointment. Balmex burns on open cuts. When drying her just pat dry and use powder with cornstarch.

Yes, do make sure it's not yeast. If she has been on antibiotics recently, it may be a yeast infection. I have used Lotramin AF (anit-fungal) externally for that. You never treat a child's yeast infection internally, like we as adults do. But, my best advise for a diaper rash, and it works every time for me, is to first give the child a bath! The ointment doesn't help unless the area is first cleaned...gentle cleaning. And, I know the child may not want to sit in the water, but it is really necessary. Not too cold or hot. But, using some mild soap (Dove, or a baby soap), rinsing off, and then applying the A&D ointment! Ah, heavenly! A&D is like Vaseline, but in my opinion it is much better, and smells good, too. My mother always used Desitin; I like that too, but it is messier, and the baby's bottom always looks white, instead of clean. Either way works...the rash will be gone in no time! Re-apply the ointment with each diaper change, and after each bath until the rash is gone. It will work!

I'm a first time mom, so I understand worrying about everything! A co-worker gave me the recipe below for diaper rashes. My daughter has not had trouble w/ diaper rash yet so i have not tried it, but several people at work swear by it for their kids/grandkids:

1 tube A&D ointment
1 bottle Malox (unflavored)
mix those together, then add cornstarch until it's pasty/creamy.
store in an air tight container

It sounds like it could be a yeast infection. Call her doctor and see what they say.

My daughter had the same thing, none of the over the counter stuff worked. I took her to the doctor and it was a yeast infection. You should take her to the doctor and they will give you an antibiotic that will help clear it up. I dont know if you daughter drinks much juice but my doctor suggested to cut back or dilute with water until the rash clears up. The juice can be very acidic and cause the urine to burn more when it comes in contact with her skin. Once the rash cleared up, I went back to giving her regular amounts of juice. My doctor also recommened warm baths. Good luck!

Try neosporin or that type antibacterial antibiotic ointment. It heals the skin much more quickly and is worth the extra expense. I haven't found any negative side effects with it's use for diaper rash. I use the kind with no extra additives. The idea came to me after the pediatrician prescribed it as a healing ointment post-circumcision.

Have you changed diaper brands recently or wipes or laundry detergent? She may have a yeast infection which would require antibiotics. I honestly haven't personally used it, but I know many people swear by "Butt Paste" (I think that is the name of it)

We tend to use A & D ointment or Desitin... it depends on the severity though because more than once we've had to get prescription ointment. You may be able to give her Motrin or Tylenol for the discomfort.

If it doesn't get better and/or keeps her up tonight, definitely call her Doctor in the morning!

In the diaper area of a little girl, they are so prone to yeast infections, my daugthers would get them everytime they turned around and they were changed once an hour whether they needed it or not, so girls are that way, it could also be a reaction to the brownie bites, i would ask your doctor what they think. My 14mth old had the same thing happen about a week ago, after trying everything I could think of I went out and bought Boudreaxs Butt Paste. The rash was MUCH better after the first application and the next morning you could barely even tell it had been there. It's amazing and it really does go on easy and comes off just as easy. stop using wipes on her immediately. You have to keep her dry even after you wash her. wash her with cool water and hypo allergenic baby liqid soap, pat her dry, and let her air dry a bit. If you have a Walmart near by you can go to their pharmacy counter and special request a product called Dr. Smith's it is in a little white with blue print plastic jar. It is a nongreasy diaper rash salve that works beautifully on children with excema and or allergies to the scent and strong baby wipes. The only wipes we could use on my daughter were white cloud. If it is still really painful you can get lotrisone(by prescription only though)and it will workwithin 24 hours. It is a little strong. Dr. Smith's is over the counter but they keep it behind the pharmacy counter because it is small and easy to steal. You need to stop using vaseline on her. Her pores can not get any air through the vaseline and you will end up turning one of her rash into a yeast infection. The lotrisone ,which you can get your obgyn to write you a script for just tell them you keep getting a mild itchy rash and that the over the counter monistat makes it go away but burns a bit when you put it on. Then keep the tube for you child. it only takes a very little bit if her rash turns. If you use the Dr. Smith's you (and it wipes off easily) will not have to worry about her ever getting to the point she was at this last time. With my daughter if someone used the wrong wipe on her she blistered and rashed with in and hour.

i know this will sound crazy. My pediatricain told me to use crisco and it actually works really well.

Try a salve that you can get at Briscoes Drug (or on the internet) that is called Resinex. It's in a jar like Mentholatum only is white. If you can't find it - it was on the shelf with other diaper rash creams, ask them. They did have it in two sizes. It works fantastic! She may be teething, or have a urine infection to cause this. Did you change diaper brands or kinds? Or soap? My oldest daughter did this when she was about that age. You may have to get some Betadine to put in her bath water to completely get rid of it - I'm not sure if thats by prescription or not. Good luck!

She may have a yeast infection or it could be a bad diaper rash. You might take her to the ped to have it checked out.

Hi, I swear by super duper diaper doo it works wonders and pretty fast! If it's real bad I do it and cornstarch powder. I would check and make sure its not yeast infection
though. It's so miserable when your little one is in pain

Hi N.! I feel for you (and your daughter). My advice would be to NOT put any sort of petroleum product on her skin (meaning no Vaseline)--they are very harsh and only make the problem worse! There are some wonderful salves at the Merc--anything made with olive oil, calendula, chamomile, etc. has worked great on my son. Also, let her go diaper-free as much as you can so that her skin can stay dry--sometimes just being wet a lot makes skin break out. Good luck! J. S.

I'd take her to the doctor, because if it is a yeast infection it will not go away on its own. My niece had a yeast infection, and my sister assumed it was a diaper rash, and it lasted until antibiotics cleared it up. Try giving your daughter probiotics like acidophilis.

Try to mix mylanta or maalox with corn starch to make a toothpaste consistency. It soothes and protects their sensitive from the acid produced in the urine. Should notice a change in a few diaper changes. Avoid products with zinc oxide cause they cause a burning sensation on contact. If rash doesnt get better need to contact pediatrician and get prescription for nystatin. Rash may be caused by yeast.
