Have you tried finger foods that won't choke her. I gave my daugther at that age Cheerios and apple slices that she loved and she had fun feeding her self. And it wasn't that had to clean up.

Make sure you have a schedule established. Make sure you do the same routine everyday. I give my kids a bath at the same night every night and they go to bed at the same time every night. Some nights the routine might mess up but try to stay with it as close as you can. They need to try to get up around the same time everyday and eat and nap at around the same time. It is easier on you and the kiddos. I just had my third son 8 weeks ago and we already have him on a schedule. The food that I fed my kiddos when they were little were those little graduates dinners and snacks. Good Luck and remember some days can be bad but it is not the end of the world. Need any advice or have any questions then let me know.

Your question is for food a 1 yr old would like, but you say you have a 7 month old. Are you planning ahead? LOL

Mine liked plain cheerios, crackers (baby, ritz, saltine), pieces of toast, soft scrambled eggs, french toast, oatmeal, bananas, strawberries, and yogurt. Soft spaghetti or other pasta with a dab of butter.

They also liked any veggies from a can that were not seasoned or very lightly salted and buttered then cooked to a softer consistency. My dd would even eat peas and mixed vegetables straight from the can with a dab of butter.

I also cooked veggies for them from raw, but canned is easy for when you are out. ;-)

The main thing is balance. Make sure they are getting enough protien through milk and other dairy products since they cannot really eat very many meats yet.

Make sure they are getting their fruit and veggies to get them on a good start to learning to eat healthy food. Each child is different. I had one that loved all food, another one that did not like healthy food--from day one! So I had to just watch for a balance.

In the first few years the protien is not only their growing resource, it is also very important for healthy brain (thinking skills) development. The veggies and fruits will help other things also. Each food has a need it meets. So for some children such as my nephew who did not like dairy milk, other protiens were supplied for the calcium and other things we get from milk. When we was an older toddler, he ate beans, cheese, yogurt, etc.

Good luck and have fun!

edited to add...I read the other responses. It is not bad to only bath your baby once a week. But it is bad to not keep her diaper area, face, hands, neck, etc. cleaned daily. That prevents diaper rash and germs from spreading around. But there are cultures were it is not possible to bath the baby daily and they thrive from the love and attention of their mothers without a daily bath just fine. ;-) Do what fits your routine! btw most babies that are sitting up love eating/chewing on things, bathing, and just life in general.

here's one that my 1 year old loves

1 pkg of egg noodles
1 pkg frozen corn
1 pkg frozen peas or green beans
1 can veg-all
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can tomato soup
1 lb ground beef

ground the beef (I always add onions and celery)...cook noodles (make sure that you don't over cook them)...add frozen corn, frozen peas or green beans, can of veg-all, can diced tomatoes and the can of tomato soup to ground beef...cook over medium heat until veggies are done...add noodles...let simmer for about 10 minutes...it only takes about 30 to 40 minutes and it's everything you need in one dish and all 5 of my kids love it!

Here's another...

Make spaghetti...and then here's your side dish that will be a hit...

1 yellow and green zucchini squash
1 white onion
1 can diced tomatoes
mozzarella cheese
Italian Seasoning

slice zucchini, squash and onion...mix together and place in a baking dish...pour tomatoes over mixture...add Italian seasoning...cover with mozzarella cheese...cover with lid...bake in oven at 375 for about 30 minutes

Also...if you like meat loaf you can cut the cooking time down to 30 minutes if you cook it in a muffin pan...my kids think its cool that they get their own personal loaf

Good Luck and have fun with it!!!

I appreciate that other moms are talking about schedules and it is important to keep consistency - however, it's best if the child fits into you and your husband's schedule. My son goes to bed around the same time during the week but stays up later on the weekend - and we like it that way because mommy gets to sleep in. Also, when there are parties, guests over or a special dinner, he is not crying at 8:00 to go to bed but is flexible enough to stay and have fun. It's all about you and dad.
Food... well, we experimented with a lot of different (but safe) table foods until he found what he liked. steamed and smashed carrots with a bit of butter was one of his favorites. I just would suggest experiementing with a little at a time so his tummy can learn to digest new things.
