So, I'm making some chocolate chip cookies and I thought I had vanilla, but I don't. Can I use almond extract instead? I have everything out and ready, and I think my MIL used the last of the vanilla I have when she was here last week. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Maple Syrup is the best vanilla extract substitution. Almond extract will REALLY change the flavor. You might not like it.

Almond extract is very potent. If you use almond extract, only use half of what the recipe calls for. (If it calls for a tsp of vanilla, do 1/2 tsp almond.) Almond extract is very potent, you don't want to substitute evenly.

Oh god no! It will completely change the flavor and if you are serving to kids they probably won't like it!

It's not going to have the same flavor. I always say, try it & if it don't work out, you'll know not to do it again. Sorry I can't be more help, good luck!
