D.M.
I haven't done it, but have heard concerns about the meal plans as well... those that do still use it like the variety of work outs and use them as they like vs. as recommended. Good luck!
Hey Moms, I am really wanting to start P90X so that for once in my life I START the summer in shape instead of end it in shape (then winter strikes).
I have done tons of research so I know it works, I know it's super hard and I know it takes commitment. I am really trying to tell myself that I can do it and will stick with it. I'm just looking for advice from those who have done it and stuck with it.
How fit do you have to be beforehand? I'm 5'6 and 139. I run two miles every once in a while, but mostly my exercise comes from taking the kids for walks, bike rides, etc. Other than that, no formal exercise.
Did you do Power 90 first?
Did you find it best to work out in the morning or afternoon or evening?
Did you get all the equipment needed? I'm not sure about the pull-up bar....I've never been strong enough to do those.
Did you follow the meal plan?
I'm open for any other tips and suggestions. I'm really excited about starting this and I just hope I'm one of the ones who can finish it. One of the things that makes it so great is that I can do it at home. During the school year my husband is gone from 8 am to 10 pm which pretty much rules exercising outside of the house.
So far I have done 3 days of the P90X Lean version and I'm loving it! I haven't followed the meal plan yet...haven't been shopping since I started, but I did find a site called "My P90X nutrition Blog" and it is full of recipes and menu ideas that are lower cost than what comes out of the nutrition guide. I have been exercising in the afternoons/ evenings after dinner, but since my kids are kind of fussy around that time I have decided to try it when my son naps (there goes my quiet time). I just can't wait for month 1 to be over so I can see a little change. I already feel great!

Do Pilates-my sister destroyed both knees doing that workout
My husband and I both did it and loved it. It definitely takes a lot of self motivation so if you don't think you will stick with it, it won't be worth buying. I would for sure get the equipment. all you need is some weights or bands. The pull up bar for me is a must you can get a good one for cheap on amazon. Ours was $30 and it just a doorway one that can be taken down. I am not strong enough to do one without help so I use a chair(they show you in the videos) The meal plan is smart but we didn't follow it. We followed a different diet and made sure we stayed under the calorie counts. Eat healthy and measure your food. I worked out in the morning because I was more motivated then but I know people that do it at night. Just do what works best for you. I also do other cardio workouts that have helped me loose the weight faster but P90X helped me tone up which I love! Good Luck to you!
My husband bought P90X and said to me are you with me or without me? Meaning I must cook out of the book to be with him. I'm not a cook, but I tried. To make a chicken meal, you had to make the sauce from scratch. The veg often was a soup. It was extremely expensive with Halibut, swordfish and expensive spices. I kept it up out 3 weeks. Then just could do it anymore, the time it took was too much out of my day. I did find a few good healthy items that I didn't of, like quinoa. I still use that as a side dish. It taught me to cook chicken with stock, instead of oil. To follow the meal plan, use it a a guide not a bible. The workouts will be hard enough, with out the hours in the kitchen on top of it. He still does the work outs, 2 years later and enjoys that vs a gym. Good luck.
I have done it twice & my husband is doing it now. It is soooo worth your time & effort. My husband has lost 15 lbs 5 weeks in. I lost 28 lbs & numerous inches the first time through. Went from a size 8/10 to a 4. I was in decent shape before P90X. I worked out constantly before having my two kids, but needed to lose that extra "mommy weight". You need to buy several sets of weights depending on your strength & bands. I didn't buy a pull-up bar, but I do recommend it if you can. Do the workout when it fits your schedule best. I do it late afternoon, early evening. I have the most energy then. I didn't follow the nutrition plan. It didn't fit my lifestyle. I have followed Weight Watchers & it fits in perfectly with P90X. I did Insanity after my first round & I'm doing Turbofire now. I definitely recommend these other Beachbody workouts, too. We bought all of them on ebay for half price. Good luck! :)
LOVED it!!!!
I didn't follow the meal plan but I know how to eat healthy.... It IS hard... Don't freak out if you can't get through the first week of the videos, it takes time...
My friend got the Power 90 first because she's not a workout person AT ALL.. It's mostly cardio with that...
I would get a pull-up bar because you'll be doing a lot of them over the course of the 12 weeks. They are not that expensive, google them...
I always work out in the am to get it over with...
GOOD LUCK!!
My husband has been doing for it for a couple of years and is in the best shape of his life (and he's always been in good shape).
I am just about to start week 3 and feel like I am going to die. Seriously.
I am 5'3 - was about 155 lbs, and am now down to 148.8 (but that's with very closely monitoring my calorie intake). I want to get to 140, and possibly 130. I have read that it is much harder for women to lose weight on P90X than it is for men. I *do* feel much stronger, and that's after only 2 weeks. My previous exercise was just walking down to the beach 3-4 times per week (about 2.5 miles round trip).
We have the pull-up bar and I highly recommend it. I still haven't gotten to a full pull-up but you can use a chair or stool and drop one leg. It's still freakin' hard. If you don't have the bar you can use bands. I haven't tried that so I don't know if that's alot easier or not.
I do not do the meal plan but we eat gluten and dairy free anyway. I just cut down my sugars/carbs and boosted my protein intake.
I just posted last week in a major funk with P90X but I'm feeling a bit better about it now.
Good luck. Hopefully you're tougher than me!
PS: Timing of work-outs - I prefer evening so I can collapse into bed immediately afterwards instead of having to function all day in an exhausted mode. On the other hand, it is VERY nice to get it out of the way first thing in the morning (so you're not dreading it all day).
I didn't do it, but my husband is currently doing it. We don't follow the diet completely because some of the recipes are gross, but I do consult the book regularly. We do eat healthy though. My husband went to the gym 2-3 times a week and still struggled in the beginning. What he did was do it every other day for about 2 weeks, and then went on to start the 90 days. He has all the equipment you need to do all the workouts. He works out in the mornings when he has night school, but prefers to work out in the evening so he does on the other days.
