My pills say on the package that spotting during the first three months is normal but you should see your doctor just in case.
I am not on anything and i get the brown discharge right before my period comes.
Hi S.,
Congrats on your new baby! I haven't taken Loestrin, I have always taken Ortho-Tricylcen (it keeps my breakouts on my face under control) But anyways, I get that brown discharge if I take it later than usual, for example like instead of taking it like usual around 8pm I take it later at night around 12:00am or sometimes( I know I shouldn't forget) but I might forget one night and take 2 the next night and this usually throws off my cycle and makes me have that brownish discharge. My gyn said that this is normal and that its brown because of slight bleeding. Which makes sense, because I think the pills create an elevated hormone level that "tricks" the body into thinking its already pregnant which keeps you from releasing eggs. And if the level of birth control is not being consistent the body stops getting the "i'm pregnant" message and starts to shed uterine lining???? Anyways, I hope this helps some, I wouldn't get too concerned about it, unless you experience some severe bleeding out of the usual menstrual cycle. :)

I breastfeed my baby and had no period. When he was 5 months I suddenly started my period. Wondering what was going on I made an appt. and saw my ob gyn. She told me that my estrogen levels were very low and that is why I didn't have a period. I started it b/c my estrogen levels went back up. You are putting estrogen in your body so that is probably why you are spotting. Once your body gets use to the hormones you will level off and be normal. No worries.

I have not taken that one, but I do know that the brown discharge is just blood. I would mention it to your doctor of course. I had that with birth control I think it was the depo shot many years ago. Got off of it (not for that reason) then went back on it after my 2nd child and I bled like crazy nonstop for 8 months! I couldn't believe I was still alive after all that blood! But, ask your doctor. See if there is something else that you can try if you don't like it. Have you heard of the Nuva Ring? It is easy to use, don't need to remember to take a pill every day and a very low dose of hormones. Which I am sure all women would be happy about!
congratulations on the birth of your little one!!
I take the 'mini pill' from birth until 6months old- it's even lighter than the loestrin- you take it every day- there is no 'off' week
maybe ask about that?
I take Micronor. I started with Depro Vera the day we were discharged from the hospital. This was considered the safest for breasfeeding. I will never use this stuff again. I gained 22 pounds while pregnant and lost 18 when I gave birth. I was on Depro for 10 months and gained 40 pounds and active too! I asked about loestrin 24 but was not recommneded bc of breastfeeding. The spotting is simply -personally I think- adjustments your body is making. If you have cramps and etc along with the spotting I would contact your ob/gyn asap. Good luck!
