Dear Daughter....yeah I don't get it either, I try to avoid Abbreviations when I can. Oh and don't forget CIO = Cry It Out
Ok I feel a bit stupid..but I have a difficult time deciphering certain abbreviations people on here use.
I know that MIL is mother in law..but what in the heck is DD? I understand that it refers to your child, a girl I assume..but I am just not sure lol.
Can anyone give me a list and the meanings of the abbreviations they know?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks..I had thought it meant like...darling daughter..and my opinion is..why?..but anyways thanks. I feel smarter now.

HTH-hope this helps
FIL- father in law
BIL-brother in law
SIL- sis in law
What Rachael wrote is spot on, but don't confuse this with texting. I've been involved with mom discussion boards since 2001, and these abbreviations have been used since even before then.
I always liked these two, especially:
NAK = nursing at keyboard (in other words, "excuse my typos, I'm typing one handed")
JMNSHO = just my not so humble opinion
edited to add:
I'm a talented writer, in fact I've been published (poetry). Don't confuse the use of these acronyms with the inability to write well. This is a discussion board, not an English class, and although I have expressed my irritation with those who post something without using spell check (something I grew up without--I actually carried a dictionary with me! AND a thesaurus!) or proper grammar, these abbreviations provide a simple and quick way to get across an idea. Also, by using things like "DD1 and DD2 went to the store" it helps keep the kids' names anonymous without confusing the reader.
www.netlingo.com haas all you could ever want!! I use it all the time. :)
wow, Rachel knows them all..... :) Thanks for sharing!
Don't you just love the fact that people like Ben and Bethany will answer your question right away? This is the greatest website ever. And netlingo is the best for all of us that need help :-)
Thank goodness you asked that question. and I take my hat off to you for asking:)
Thanks for asking this. I've also seen "SO" what does this one mean?
I know the women can't write anymore because they think they are texting. It is absurd and LOL has other meanings. Many things the sisters write are abbreviations with other meanings.
I really don't answer when I can't figure it out. SS for step son stinks.
So sisters I'll tell you we aren't going to write books or become poets if we can't write the word out when not on the phone.
Published author of 3 great books translated into 12 languages.
Oh you ladies think this is bad? This isn't texting. Believe me, the texting I've seen in other places in the world would make a grammar teacher weep.
