Putting Stuff in the Nose

Don't worry, they'll get it out one way or another. When my son was 3 he put a popcorn kernal in his ear. After a trip to the E.R. and to a ear, nose, throat specialist, they still couldn't get it out so they had to schedule "surgery". We had to actually go into the hospital and he had to be put under so they could get it out. They didn't cut him or anything. They just needed him to be out so they could use the tool to get it out. A very LONG needle nose like tweezers. So I'm assuming they will use something like that to get it out. Don't worry, it won't hurt, but maybe your child won't do it again! Mine didn't! Good luck.

Oh they have their ways to remove things! :( she might have some sort of sinus infection...infections do have an odor to them. Once, my daughter was ill with a sore throat, fever etc...our doc who was really a "gut" doctor just smelled her. He said she had strep, he could tell by the smell. Of course he ran the test and she DID have strep. Amazing! Good you are taking her to the doc.

Hello D., My daughter did this when she was one, with a stone. The doctor took a tool that looked like long pronged pliers to reach in and grab the object. She will need to be held still to keep her from getting hurt during the prossess, but it needs to be done to stop the infection(hence the bad odor). Hope all works well.

I worked with a guy who stuck a stone up his nose. He sneezed and blew his nose alot, but it was lodged in the nostril tight. We had to go to ER to remove it. They actually have a small probe smaller than the size of a tooth pick that they used to work around the object to get above it and the end of the probe opens into a small hook then hooks onto the object and pulls it out. It didn't seem to hurt him too bad, just a bit uncomfortable as they have to be very still (you may have to hold her head and it may take a few attempts). She may be on antibiotics for a couple days to prevent a sinus infection.

When I was a kid, my sister stuck a bean up her nose. My folks didn't know it was there until it started to grow! LOL

There are a couple of ways to get it out. A trained professional may have the child blow it real good while holding the other side shut or they may use an awesome pointy tool to gently pull what ever is in there out. Either way, it sounds worse than it is and will make for a great story some day!

all babies hate the bulb and suction. my kids didn't like it either. and when you think of it, it does feel like you're getting your brain sucked out. yucky noise and yucky feeling.
but it's only temporary. so use it. I have yet to see a warning that it hurt a baby or worse.
