My son has had the most horroable breath off and on for about a week now. I took him to see the doc, right before thanksgiving and he had an ear infection. I haven't been feeding him anything different from what I've been feeding him. I'm at a loss as to what is going on. I do have a call into the doc. I'm waiting on his nurse to call me back. Any info from anyone would be gratful. Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

That you for your respones. The doctor's nurse called back. Pretty much seems like she doesn't know what it is. She thinks it has to do with something with teething. He's not running any fevers, he does have reflux (I read somewhere today that it could be getting worse.), I haven't changed what he's eatting. If it's still smelling bad by mon. I'm going to call and make him an apointment. I might do it anyways, also read it could be a sign for diabetes, and it runs in my family. Thank you all again.

I would get a home blood glucose tester and do a blood check...you say diabetes runs in your familiy - type 1 or 2 (two very different diseases)....if type 1 everything can go downholl bery fast.....you can get a tester/strips at WalMart very reasonably or if you are near east Dallas you can use my daughter's.........please do this.....has he lost weight? drinking alot?

I could (and still can) tell when my boys have an ear or sinus infection when they have terrible breath that won't go away. You may want to get his ears checked again in case the antibiotics aren't working.

My daughter had something similar a long time ago. She was two or three yrs. old though. I started swabbing out her mouth and brushing her teeth often. I'd wash her face because I thought she was drooling (maybe from teething) and that it was the cause of the odor. My mom and dad really noticed it and so I know it wasn't just the overprotective Mom! But....after two weeks of this we took her to the pediatrician and there was something stuck up in her nose! Her comforter had a hole in it and she was putting the fiberfil up her nose! I felt like the worst mother but the doctor told me that she would never do it again as the removal was quite an ordeal! But, she was much older than your son. Later on, she did develop bad breath again....but it turned out that over the course of the years of lots of sore throats and congestion, she had to have her tonsils out. That took care of the problem for good! The only drawback was....she was not told about the tonsils until she was 18 and had to have them out right after graduation! I wish I had been more persistent about this....between the pediatric dentist (at least twice a year), the orthodontist (18 months), the (adult) dentist, the pediatrician...no one picked up on it. Finally, the pediatrician sent her to an ENT and the very first time he looked in her mouth...he saw her yucky tonsils. After the surgery, he told us that they were the worst tonsils he had ever seen! I think that she has had allergies all along and that it was the cause of the congestion, asthma, sore throats, etc., which led to the breath issue. Good Luck! Please let us know what happens!
