Putting Baby down with Bottle

since my baby can stand in her crip now, i've resorted to putting her down with a bottle. Otherwise she justs cries or plays in her crib (sneaky bugger even learned to play quietly so I'd think she was sleeping). I even do it at regular bed time if need be. I know its a no no, but she's just so naughty now that she can stand in her crib. So i guess the issues are ear infection and rotton teeth. Anything else I should know and any suggestions?

So What Happened?

Putting her down with water is a good idea, she loves water. I'de love to hold her with her bottle, but she's just too big of a squirmy worm. I only get to do that at night. Its almost like she perfers her independecne and just wants me to giver her the bottle. I supose its a phase like most things. We've been doing this now for a month or so. I'll try and break the habbit.

If the bottle in the bed is the only way your child will go to sleep, I would suggest switching to water at night. If it is rejected at first, why don't you dilute it slowly until she gets used to it.

Something else to think about - if you give into her now how much harder will she be to control later on! I say that with much respect so don't be offended. Moms have to do what works best for them. I strongly believe if you do your best all will be okay. Just something to think about. Good luck.

My daughter is 9 months old and we still rock her to sleep. We dont let her sleep with her bottle, but rather rock her to sleep with a bottle. When she knocks out, we put her in her crib. She doesnt have a problem with falling asleep on her own so each child is different.
Its our quiet time with her as my husband and I alternate who puts her down. Its a beautiful time to bond and say goodnight. We brush her teeth before her bottle. Hope this helps.

Hi Heidi, you didn't mention how old your daughter was. If she is standing in her crib, she's probably not tired, I don't know how you feel about rocking her to sleep, I used to get a lot of ( you shouldn't do that) but now that my kids are grwn and I see the finished product, I know they were wrong, My kids were only on one bottle a day from 9 months to one year, and that was first thing in the mornng while i was getting their cereal ready. Laying a baby/child down with a bottle can cause baby bottle tooth rot, and or ear inffections, I've seen both, so,I never put my babies down with a bottle, what I did do until potty training I did put a sippy cup of water in the corner of the crib, my first born's ped advice. If she plays in her crib, isn't that why we put busy boxes in the crib and stuffed animals, so if they wake up they can entertain themselves? that's why i did it, if you feel you must give her a bottle, give her water in it, that may even break her of wanting it. if I knew how old she is I could advice more. Hey Amen on Leaning on the Lord and making him the center of your lives. Off to a great start. J. L.

One bit of advice, I know a person who let their baby go to sleep with a bottle- juice or milk... Long story short- the baby, who is now 4 1/2 had to have both front teeth pulled due tooth decay from just that. Not only, does the child have to wait 7 or 8 years to have front teeth, it has affected his speech. I would be weary about the bottle in bed! Good Luck!

Hi Heidi, Yes putting your child down with a bottle is a very bad idea. It can cause tooth decay and ear infections. My cousin put her baby down with a body and later on she ended up having I think it was 6 root canals. You should feed your baby in your arms and enjoy the time you have with her. Once, they get older they don't really like to be held all that much because they want to get down and play. I have a 2 1/2 year old and when ever I get a chance to hold him I do. Here is a very good website I found. http://health.shiawassee.net/Baby_Basic/BBTD.htm and here is another website about putting your baby to bed with a bottle but there is so much more stuff on this website and it talks about sleep patterns too! http://www.trainingwheels4ece.com/talk/ttslpy.htm I just mark this under my favorites! Hope this helps! God Bless!
