Ok, thanks, this was just a question. He is old enough to hold his own bottle. Has been for a little while. I will think more about this and see what I want to do later on. Thanks much to you all!!! ----{-{@

I would say no. I have read several places that it is not only a choking hazard, but it is not good for the teeth. Kids who are put to bed with bottles are also more prone to ear infections. Plus, if you start that bad habit it will be very difficult to put them to sleep with one once that time come.

My daughter's go to bed with sippy's,but that didn't start until they were about 10 months old. My only concern is that he isn't able to hold the bottle himself.

I NEVER NEVER NEVER put my son down with a bottle.

According to the The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, putting a baby down with a bottle is the major cause of baby bottle tooth decay.

They say:

"Baby bottle tooth decay (or nursing bottle mouth) is a leading dental problem for children under 3 years of age. Baby bottle tooth decay occurs when a child's teeth are exposed to sugary liquids, such as formula, fruit juices, and other sweetened liquids for a continuous, extended period of time."

"The practice of putting a baby to bed with a bottle, which the baby can suck on for hours, is the major cause of this dental condition. The sugary liquid flows over the baby's upper front teeth and dissolves the enamel, causing decay that can lead to infection. The longer the practice continues, the greater the damage to the baby's teeth and mouth. Treatment is very expensive."

"Don't allow a child to fall asleep with a bottle containing milk, formula, fruit juices, or other sweet liquids. Never let a child walk with a bottle in her mouth."

Plus, If you start it now, it might be a tough habit to break when he is older.

It may be tempting to do C. - but it's just not worth it!

Good Luck to you!

My understanding is that it's a terrible habit to get into and can cause tooth decay in babies/children. The experts recommend giving children of about 9 months of age anything else besides a bottle to comfort them, such as a stuffed animal, blanket or pacifier.
Respectfully,

I would think it's ok ONLY with water, and not a lot because you don't want him soaking through his diaper.

It's not recommended to put babies to bed with their bottle for 2 reasons: They could get ear infections (although that may be for younger babies with propped bottles) and the risk of tooth decay (unless it's water). The when and how long is up to you if you decide to give him water in his bottle.

We put our daughter down with a sippy cup of water. We've made the mistake of using milk a few times, but I know that's not a good thing to do. I don't see why water would be a problem. Although my daughter is 2 and she still needs it. She WILL NOT sleep without it. If you don't have to start the habit I would avoid it just for later convenience and fewer battles.

I have been told that you should NOT put a baby to bed with a bottle because it causes ear infections, is bad for their little teeth, and creats a habit that be hard to break later! We always take the sippy cups away around 7 (about an hour before bed) and we are trying to break him of a pacifier for bedtime. ;(
