I cook them in the toaster oven at a low temp, around 300. I oil the pan but don't add anything else. Spread them out evenly in one layer. Sometimes I get distracted and they overcook.
I wonder how stores get the shells off?
Does anyone have a good recipe for pumpkin seeds? Seriously? I beginning to think there isn't one.... I've tried several and always end up disappointed. Any tried and true recipes would be good as well as any tips on preparation. Do you soak them? bake them at low temp? fry them in a pan?
We are going to "slaughter" our pumpkins this weekend and I'm going to let my kids explore the pumpkin guts but would love to let them eat the seeds as well.

Here's what I did and my family cannot stay away from them.
Rinse very well in warm to hot water right before you plan to bake them. Allow to drain well. Measure 5 cups of seeds and put in medium bowl. Melt 1/2 stick of butter then mix in 1/2 tsp of garlic powder. Pour over seeds and toss to cover. Pour into jelly roll pan and sprinkle with salt (I use Kosher salt). Bake at 300 for an hour and stir occasionally. I'm sure you can modify the butter and salt for smaller portions without issue.
go on foodtv.com... or allrecipes.com i used a recipe from both and it was very good.. check it out..
I've always taken them out of the pumpkin, torn away big long scraggly pieces of pumpkin, then put them (NO RINSING) on a cookie sheet/pan with a lot of butter (not margarine) and sprinkle some Tony Cachery's seasoning on it (garlic powder, salt, paprika maybe. It's an all-purpose seasoning in a green cylinder in the spices section of the grocery store. Very yummy. I use it on everything. I don't use a salt-shaker). Bake at 300 or 3:50 till they taste yummy, stirring/tossing inbetween. Sorry I don't remember times or temps. It's been a few years since I've cooked them.
Pumpkin seeds are a favorite at our house.
I don't do anything special. I just rinse them well, spray with a little Pam, sprinkle with salt and bake on a cookie sheet about 275 for about an hour or until crunchy.
Every 15-20 minutes I go and stir them up so they all get nice and toasted.
Enjoy!
I rinse them, then coat them with melted butter and worcestershire sauce and sprinkle with a little garlic powder and salt. Bake at 375 til golden brown. My kids love them.
I just rinse them, sprinkle with salt and bake at 350 till they are golden brown. I just did it last week and they turned out good. I thought anyway.

I made the best ones last week! I kind of came up with it myself. I roasted them with some olive oil and salt. Then a tossed them with a little soy sauce and some Johnny's parmesan garlic seasoning and a little more salt. Yummy!
I soak my seeds for at least 24 hours in heavy garlic salted water. The next day I spray a cookie sheet with pam and cook the crud out of them. Once they are browned on both sides they are good to go. I have discovered that if I seal them up to store them they get soggy so I just put them in an open bowl and we snack on them until they are gone.
Enjoy!
