Has anyone been to Puerto Rico? I'm looking for reviews - the good and bad.

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and I can tell you that it's a beautiful island. While San Juan is great, you should definately make it a point of going to Fajardo. It is in the East coast of the island. Once you get to Fajardo, take the Ferry boat (check schedule before hand) which would only cost $2.00 and go to Culebra island. The beaches are absolutely gorgeous. If you need more places to go to (which there are plenty) feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to provide you with exact places and info.

Where in Puerto Rico are you planning to go? Let me know so I can get back to you. It's an easy flight but the island can be a good/bad experience if you aren't open.

Hi N.,

I have never been to Puerto Rico, but I did want to suggest another place my husband and I enjoyed/loved (on our honeymoon).

It's the Moon Palace in Mexico (in between Cancun and Riviera Maya). It's an amazing place amd though this resort is large, it's secluded and romantic. You can also take the tours to visit the Mayan ruins (awsome!) and Xcaret which is an eco park (full or water activities and other stuff). This resort offers you lots of activities and it's close to Cancun (to visit if you've never been).

Check it out.

Good luck and have fun, where ever you go.

Loved El Conquistador located in Fajardo as a resort experience. San Juan is fun and lots of english spoken there

My husband and I just got back from Puerto Rico. I really liked Purto Rico. Everyone speaks English, you use American money, and the food is not too costly and it's good. I would say that it is not as resorty as Jamaica or Mexico, but the weather is great and there are good beaches. Do not stay at the Radison Hotel. That is where we stayed and it was very 80's. New San Juan is kind of under construction and I think in a few years it will be like South Beach. Long story short, it is a good place for a quick trip and I would go back. Just research the hotels. Good luck.

I have been in to Puerto Rico twice, while boarding a cruise. I did spend two days there on the tail end of our cruise. Maybe it was that I was tired and wanted to get home, but I was not at all impressed with Puerto Rico. I found it to be very dirty, especially the airport. The locals we ran into were not friendly at all. Now, I have talked with others who stayed in resorts there, and loved it. So I am not sure if my advice helps. I do know it is not cheap... average hotel is $150 (if lucky) to $250/night. Hope this helps.

Puerto Rico has:

Warm weather
Great beaches
Awesome history and historical colonial cities - Old San Juan and Ponce
Mountains and valleys
Music
Nightlife
Restaurants
Museums
Resorts (150+)
Lots of traffic
Very little begging
Large urban area issues

It is a great place but remember that it is not a tiny island resort. It is an island nation our main industry is not tourism but pharmaceuticals and manufacturing. Tourism is very important however.
