Live in PA Planning a Hawaii Trip for Hubby's 50Th. Any All Inclusive Ideas?

If you're in the East, realize that you will spend a full day traveling out to Hawaii and a full day back. And yes, it's expensive - not just the flights, but the food/entertainment.

If it were me, I'd go to something tropical in the same time zone (give or take one) - friends of mine just went to an all inclusive place in Cancun (they took the kids but there were tons of restaurants on site, snorkeling, visiting the Mayan ruins, etc.). They found it on Expedia or Travelocity, I forget which. The US VIrgin Islands and Puerto Rico are US lands so it's awfully easy to get in and out, and everything is available in English at least as one option. Puerto Rico has beautiful beaches, the only rainforest in the US territories, historic old San Juan, phosphorescent waters (take a glass-bottom boat tour at night), and much more. These are great escapes, and you can get there in 3-4 hours or so.

Look on the usual travel sites, but if you're a AAA member, don't forget they have a free travel agency and great ratings of hotels all over the place. You'll know exactly what you're getting.

I've been to HI many times but the only all inclusive I was ever aware of was Kona Village on the big island. It was VERY expensive, like ridiculous, but an amazing once in a lifetime trip. Sadly it was washed out after that last big tsunami :-(
In addition to Kona Village we honeymooned at The Westin Kaanapali on Maui, stayed at The Hyatt Poipu Beach on Kuaui, The Royal Hawaii'n on Oahu and few other condo type places. It's going to be expensive, there's no getting around it.
Get on Tripadvisor and figure it out that way, it's so much easier to plan a big trip like this on that site. I travel quite a bit and I always start there.

I LOVE Hawaii, but it helps that I'm on the west coast to keep cost and travel time down.

I would think there are tropical places on your coast that would be more cost effective. I'm picturing Atlantis in Bermuda and so many other places.

I usually see all inclusive in Mexico (club med) or the Caribbean. I actually do not recall it in Hawaii. I think Hawaii is more expensive than other tropical places because 1. it is a US state that need to pay workers at least min wage unlike 3rd world places. 2. Many people from Japan go there and they are used to paying more for things and Hawaii is happy to charge more. They do have some cheaper places too, but not like Mexico.

We go to Maui about every two years. We stay at a timeshare now, but the first time we went we stayed in a hotel. I don't know of any "all inclusive" resorts on Maui. One hotel that came up when I did a search for all inclusive, I'm pretty sure isn't all inclusive like your would find in the Caribbean. It was $400 a night.

I would look for a vacation rental. We have used airbnb when we have gone other places and it has been cheaper than a hotel or resort. When I did a search on airbnb for Maui I found things that were $50-$150 a night that looked nice.

When we stay in the timeshare we save a lot of money by picking up groceries instead of eating out for every meal. Last time we went I think we only ate out once a day.

Other of the Hawaiian islands might have all inclusive places.

We have looked at Hawaii, but it's so pricey to get there from the east coast. We did a cruise two years ago and hit Bahama's, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and Grand Turks. We want to spend more time in Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. I highly recommend anything down there really...my brother is planning his second trip in two years to Dominican Republic. It cost him under $2500 for him and his fiancée for a full week all-inclusive.

Atlantis is in the Bahama's not Bermuda. Bermuda is amazing though. I got to live there for 3 years and can't wait to go back!

I recommend a cruise. We went about a year ago and spent about a week on Oahu (planned our own hotels and meals), then took a 7 day cruise to the other islands. I trip to remember for a lifetime.
