Psycho Period Lady

I'm a normal person when I'm not on my period. When I'm about to start my period, and when I'm on my period... A saint could probably offend me. I don't know how to describe it. I don't feel angry psycho... I feel really sensitive and emotional psycho. I feel it happening, and I tell myself it's just my period and to keep my mouth shut... I beg myself to keep my mouth shut. I give myself pep talks as I start to feel it coming over me, and remind myself, "it's the period talking, it's the period talking"...but it never fails, I always lose control. I either lash out about things I've been holding in all month, or about random things I've been holding in for longer or I get super defensive and protective...over everyone...to the point of expressing my opinion to the offender, that I would either normally not share, or that I would normally try to be more diplomatic about. I have zero BS tolerance during my period.

Is this normal? Does this happen to anyone else? Do I need medication?

What can I do next?

Yep it's normal. But it can be improved. Carefully watch your diet. Salt causes water retention and the water retention can build up in brain cells and cause you to have little control of your temper. So it may help you to read every lable of every food item you put in your mouth. All the time -- not just a week or so before your period. If a food item has a high sodium content, don't eat it. Learn to eat a low sodium and you may see a lot of improvement in your behavior.

It happens to me. It was never that bad before kids, but after kids and hitting 40 sent me over the edge! I just try to make sure I am eating well and exercising.

Same answer as the depression person -- exercise. But to an extent it's normal. I never had that problem most of my life, but as I approached menopause, I started to get very moody around my period. Don't have that problem any more, though. :)

I think it's normal. I do the same thing. I will go off on my husband and kids and the next day start. It's hormonal.

It MAY fairly normal... Depends on the way you lash out.

The 180 in your personality means its more likely PMDD than PMS.

Parallel is Baby Blues are fairly normal, PPD is not.
PMS is fairly normal (about 1/3 of women), PMDD is not (less than 2%).

I HATE the word and everyone in it for 3 days before my period starts. I feel it coming and dread it, but it happens. For me this started after having children.

It is a bit better when I keep my diet and exercise on track. I also plan for those to be "easy" days...freezer meals, movies, and play ground time. No need for any fancy projects or play that gets messy.

I also warn my kids..."Mommy isn't is a very good mood today but I'm gonna try really hard. It would really help me if you tried too...please do your best to get along with each other today." And I feel free to take my own time outs when I need them. 5 minutes alone in my room with the door shut can work wonders.

I get super grouchy and on occasion super emotional. Like this week, a co-worker kind of threw me under the bus and normally I wouldn't care but I was on my period and i go upset and was venting at another co-workers desk and was about crying over it. I think my boss and supervisor know when its here because its the only time i'm senour grumpy pants. I hate not having control over my emotions.

Excedrin Menstrual complete work awesome for me but all excedrin products have been recalled so I guess they have to put up with me.
