Protecting Against Red Cheecks

Both my children (four and 10 months) have red cheecks that I know have been caused by the cold weather. I have heard somewhere that putting vaseline on their cheecks would help. Is this right? Is there something else that can keep them from looking like their cheeks have been painted?

What can I do next?

Hey there,
I use Aquafor for my daughter (2.5 yrs old) and it works great. Similar to Vaseline but I find it works better for red cheeks and chapped lips. Also works great as diaper cream if you run out!
Good luck!

I've tried lots of different remedies. But my 13 month old daughter has allergies like me. Recently, I've used Balmex Clear on her face and it seems to help. Just keep the cheeks moisturized.

I have an eight month old with the same problem. I use aquaphor ointment. It has the same texture as vasaline. It is thick but it works well! Their cheeks are red because they get dry and chapped. Keeping them moist helps!!

I have an 11 month old girl that has the same problem right now(but today it is much better). If you kids use pacifiers, they add to the problem. I have found that Vaseline is ok, but there is a night time baby lotion(Johnson and Johnson) that is a calming and soothing lotion (the bottle is clear/white and the writing is purple). This doesn't burn her and it cleared it up in about 36 hours. Good luck-my daughter's popped up on portrait day, so we ordered lots of black and white pictures so you can't see it.

A.,

You can do vaseline, though it can be quite greasy. You can also use A&D ointment, which is thicker, but can be greasy as well. I also wanted to add Aquaphor (by Eucerin). I actually use it on my hands and feet at night and wear cotton socks throughout the night. Besides keeping their cheeks lotioned up and moisturized, there's not much else you can do. Good Luck!

It can work, but it can also be a giant mess, and I'm not sure it's a good idea for little ones to eat vaseline. With my son, I use Aveeno lotion on him at morning and night and this keeps his skin moisturized so it won't get chapped from the cold weather. Good luck!

Hi A.,

I would recommend using Renew lotion for this too! I say too because I suggested it for eczema also. I get it through a company called Melaleuca, which also sells TOXIC FREE PRODUCTS to use in your home. I swear by the company and their products. I can help you with this product let me know if your interested. A. ____@____.com / www.busymomsworkathome.com
