I assume it's a shot? I had to do Progesterone & Oil shots during my first trimester pregnancy. It's not harmful or bad in any way. I got a beautiful little girl. Of course, I had to do IVF so it was part of the regiment. Good luck
My doctor put me on progesterone during my first trimester. My level was very low. He said that Low progesterone is sometimes the cause for 1st trimester miscarriage. Low progesterone is often common in moms 35+. Hope this helps, good luck. (The baby is now almost 6 years old!!!)
Hi J.,
Congratulations on your pregnancy! Progesterone levels rise at ovulation, and if there is a pregnancy, the baby begins to stimulate its increase. Around the 14th week of pregnancy, when the placenta is fully formed, it can take over the production of Progesterone. Progesterone inhibits contractions of the uterus and also relaxes the walls of your blood vessles, helping to keep blood pressure low. If you have specific concerns about being given progesterone, feel free to send me a pm, and I will do my best to provide any information I have.

Hi J., I had to go on progesterone pills also. I had to take 1 tablet a day for my 1st trimester due to low #'s, I had found out I was pregnant very early maybe 4 0r 5 weeks along. Anyway my son is almost 3. I had a great pregnancy.
Good luck
I took progesterone for the first trimester during my first pregnancy (I have 3 children now) orally (pill). i had to take it for the same reasons you are describing. Just take the medicine and look forward to holding your new baby soon (time goes by too fast!). I had no side effects. Good luck!
Congratulations on your pregnancy J.!
I had low progesterone too and had to take pills during my first trimester. They measured my progesterone from a blood test each week and my levels were fine once I was on the suppliments.
I had no other problems during the pregnancy and gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl on Oct. 29th.
I wish you and your baby all the best!
I took it during this pregnancy ... I'm 30 wks. It just made me extremely tired. No complications& a healthy pregnancy so far!!! It can be pretty common ( the need to take it) for woman who have had back to back pregnancies or who have had a hx of miscarrages or just low levels....
I wouldn't worry too much about it:). Good luck!
J.,
This is what happened when I was pregnant with my first daughter. My progestrone level was at 5 and they said it should have been at minimum 15.They gave me Suppositories for 12 weeks and I have a beautiful 3 year old daughter now. Good luck and it does help. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Hi there, i just took a pregnancy test and it was positive. My ob ran some test to check my progesterone level and it was 8.7 and she wanted me to repeat it again after 72 hrs. I am worried because we were expecting this pregnancy and the more i read the more worried i am. Is my first pregnancy. Can someone tell if this is normal or if any of you has been through the same thing.
Thank you
In my eyes, this an absolute must do, since your levels are
low. Please, please take his advice. BTDT.
I took progesterone shots for the first trimester as well and everything turned out fine. I have a healthy 13 week old boy who is thriving.
I had no side effects. It was just a little inconvenient.
I hope everything goes well for you.
Hi J.,
Happy New Year!
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
If you are worried about medications, I think you should consider safer, natural prenatal vitamins for you and your baby.
Good luck.

I have two little girls and was on progesterone suppositories during both pregnancies. My very first pregnancy ended in miscarriage, and while they are not certain low progesterone was the cause, they tested mine and because it was a bit on the low side they figured they would put me on the progesterone. It helps support the uterus and growth of baby until your body takes over. I was told that the suppositories are a more natural way to get the progesterone than to take it orally...but I don't really know...I never had any side effects, both girls are super healthy, and both pregnancies were very uneventful otherwise. Good luck!
I was on progesterone supplement for both of my pregnancies. I had to take 2 vaginal suppositories per day, for 30 days(first trimester) since my levels were on the low side. The levels went up in a couple of weeks and then I didn't have to take it anymore. I am sure that your doctor will have you on it for a short amount of time. My son and daughter were born full term and healthy. I didn't experience any side effects from taking it. Good luck!
