I just found out I am pregnant with baby # 2. We are very excited but also came to find out my progesterone levels are low. It was 12.2 @ 5 wks. And 13.9 @ 6 weeks. Doc says it is increasing not to worry. But I AM WORRIED. She says lets take another level next week and see... has anyone experienced low prog??? If so what was the outcome. I just want a healthy pregnancy already miscarried once!

After having my daugher, I ended up having 3 miscarriages. Found out the progesterone level was low. 4th pregnancy started taking progesterone tablets until week 15. My son is now 4 years old. Definitely take progesterone.

I had this problem with all three of my pregnancies. With my first I did'nt know and misscarried because of it. With my other two pregnancies I took a progesterone pill for the first 12 weeks. If they are testing you every week I think it should be fine. I think it only matters for the first 12 weeks because your baby gets feed from your ovaries and then after 12 weeks the umbilical cord. It's something like that. The 2nd it drops to low they will give you something. Maybe when you get your blood tested this week you can ask about the pill and weather you can take it as a precaution and if it is has any downside. Good luck.

I dealt with low progesterone outside of the context of pregnancy (I was having night sweats). My acunpuncturist figured out the cause (low progesterone) which was caused by me not having much body fat. I started on a regimen of eating the "good fats" - avocado, goat cheese, olive oil, olives in oil, some herbs also have good stuff in them (I think rosemary and oregano?). This totally changed everything for me -- no more night sweats, my basal body temp stabilized. So I imagine that the same diet would be helpful if that is the issue for you. But obviously this may not apply to you at all, just a thought.

Hi,
I am 11 weeks into my 5th pregnancy ( One healthy daughter, 3 miscarriages and now a hopefully healthy pregnancy). My Dr. decided to put me on a progesterone supplement this pregnancy because my progesterone levels were on the low side of normal and she has found supplementing with progesterone to help women with recurrent miscarriages. So far so good I guess. The baby's heart rate last week was 175bpm, with all of my miscarriages the heart rate was low. I will only be on progesterone for the next week, as the placenta takes over at week 12. I personally doubt the progesterone is what made the difference in this pregnancy, i think this one is just a blessing from God and the others were not meant to be, but taking the progesterone definitely has not hurt and there are no real side effects that I have noticed.

I had low prog with my last two pregnancies. Both times my doctor put me on 200mg of progesterone per day until 13 weeks. With my first pregnancy with low prog, I bled until I was on the suppliment for 5 days. With my other pregnancy with low prog I bled on and off until 15 weeks even with the prog suppliment. Both of these babies were born full term and are very healthy. The older one is very smart. My son who is now 10 weeks old is growing so fast and he is so strong. Why don't you call your doctor and ask to be put on suppliments? I had many sonograms with these two pregnancies to be sure the babies where healthy, and that it was just a progesterone issue. Best of luck.

I had trouble with low preg. too. I had two early miscarriages which the Dr. contributed to my proges. levels, even tried a progesterone pill to increase my levels, with no sucess. That said I now have 2 wonderful healthy kids. I started using clomid before tring agian to help incress levels. With both of my kids my levels were so low to start with it was surprizing we actually concieved. My pregancys were good, fulterm, happy, healhty babies. My understanding is if you levels are rising try not to worry. I believe the proges. helps with the implantation. If you are at 6 wks and your levels are rising thats very good. Best advice I can give is TRY not to worry stress is not good for anyone. I hope this helps some. GOOD LUCK to you and your family!

Someone already posted this and the same thing happened for me: "I had trouble with low preg. too. I had two early miscarriages which the Dr. contributed to my proges. levels, even tried a progesterone pill to increase my levels, with no sucess. That said I now have 2 wonderful healthy kids." My advice is the same hers. Don't worry. If there is a problem, then nature will take its course and make that decision. I think my healthy babies are a result of me finally letting mother nature decide and stopping thinking I had any control over it. For my third, first successful, pregnancy I relaxed as much as possible. Put my legs up, watched tv, took walks, stopped if I felt the slightest bit anxious or tired and always got my mind off the pregnancy cause thinking about it stressed me out. I did this for my second successful one too. Let nature do its thing and you just relax. Look at this as a great excuse to take it easy.

With my second pregnancy, I had the lowest prog level my OB had ever seen - 1.9. I used prog suppositories through the 1st trimester. I don't think I ever got up your number when they stopped doing bloodwork.

Easier said than done, but try to sit back and relax. My 5.5 year-old smart-a$$ would like you to know that everything will be fine. ;)

Good luck!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
Did Your Doctor put you on progesterone supplements? My progesterone was low and my doctor put me on pills (I think it was 200mg per day or something like that). I took them until I was about 11-12 weeks pregnant. The doctor said that by that time the placenta will take over producing the progesterone instead of my body.
All is fine now and I am 28 weeks pregnant.

Your placenta is probably starting to take over the production of progesterone and your doctor is probably expecting that it will continue to increase. I'm just curious why she wouldn't put you on the supplements from the start. If you notice any spotting you should definitely talk to you doctor about supplements if you aren't already on them.
All the very best,
B.

Can your OB put you on progesterone injections just to be on the safe side? I don't think my doctor liked my level to go below 15.

I find your doc to be very irresponsible-sorry. My doc wanted me to take progesterone and my levels were in the 20's!! just because i missed mis carried one time. If you miscarry again whose fault will it be? You should also find a doc that does more testing once you miscarry. With me they found out I had the clotting issue and I had to take lovenox to thin my blood throughout my pregnancy! Who knew? But I produced a normal healthy baby..It's about being thorough. Miscarriages is too traumatic-the less the better. good luck
