Question for Mamapedia profile: I tried to put in my profile for my son and daughter, born in 1969 and 1970, respectively. The year only goes to 1980???

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I was NOT asking for advice on my kids - yes, Julie, they ARE adults. I was asked to update my profile and the profile asks for this information. I have been on here since Momasource too and generally just answer questions/offer advice. I have helped people find homes for pets and given advice on pet care.....

Well - I do know a handsome guy who was born before 1980, not exactly "my child" but close enough, who sometimes has trouble sleeping through the night. Any tips are welcome. Sometimes I'm quick with cuddles, other times he self-soothes with his computer or reading the newspaper.

This sounds like a question for the administrators, but offhand, I'm going to guess that the ages of ones kids cease to be all that relevant to other members seeking Mamapedia "friends" with children of similar ages. Once a member has kids in their 30s and 40s, what benefit could there be in sharing that? We're interested in YOU of course, and in your stories, but we aren't likely to be seeking friends with kids the same age as our kids in their 30s and 40s. We may share adult concerns or issues with grandkids perhaps, but we aren't in the active parenting role like people with little kids, teens or even college-age kids. I'll be interested to see what the other answers are.

Hi C.,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I was unaware that this problem was occurring. I will be sure to make our tech staff aware of the issue and see what we can do to correct the problem.

Because if you were born in 1980 you are not in any sense of the word, a child. Why on earth would you need advice on how to raise an adult?

Fumbles, if she has questions about her grandkids wouldn't their birthday be later than 1980? I was born in 1968 and my older kids are 26 and 28, still past born in 1980. Their kids would be born sometime in the future so I guess I don't see your point.

Maybe C. has questions about her grandkids. She should be allowed to use this website.

Heck admin can even round to 1995 and then let their be a box/option for adult children.

Can you believe kids born in 2000 will be turning 17 years old this January? We are going to have adults born in this millennium very soon.

I was just reading Diane B.'s answer and was thinking about how we could go about finding a website for us more mature moms. I have written here for several years, and often hope my past experiences or advice helps but sometimes want to get answers for myself on the older ones. As far as the years go it isn't just here. I have tried on job applications, forms, etc. and apparently the world stops in 1980 LOL

I just figured that the active raising part of parenting is over by the time the 'kids' are old enough to be parents themselves.
For parents of older kids - like college age - this site is pretty cool:

They usually have a way to scroll down. If they don't then notify the site and let them know they have an issue.

Maybe her adult child has a medical condition, marital issues, is not parenting well, on drugs, etc.
Parenting does not stop at any age. My children are grown and still seek advice. As an adult child, I often passed questions to my parents, as well.
