I wouldn't use Avon and dryer sheets on my dog. Dryer sheets aren't even good for us.
My pest control man told me to put some garlic in the dogs food and get fly stuff they use on horses. The vet suggested the horse stuff too.
One of my dogs is having issues with flies biting her ears and trying to nest on her left ear. We had this issue a couple of years ago and we just kept her inside. It is happening much earlier this year, and the weather is still beautiful outside. She loves to be outside, but I do not want another fly nest on her ear. It was so nasty!!! I found these two products online at Petco, and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about them? Which would you reccommend??
Fly Free Zone Natural Fly Repellant Dog Collar
Farnam Flys-Off Fly Repellent Ointment for Wounds & Sores
Any ideas you have would be great! Thanks!!!

PLEASE do not use human insect repellents on animals..... some of them can be very toxic if ingested.

It really is best to talk to a trusted vet about this.... they may try to sell you the products they carry, but they can steer you to safe alternatives, also.
To be on the safe side....I ALWAYS ask my vet!
You don't have to take your dog in...just call!
I'd use something specific for animals and it is a good idea to check with the vet. They will know what works best and what problems you might see with others. They used to bother a dog we had and I would also put fly traps out. You want the traps as far away from the house as possible and to still be effective as they really stink. They are these plastic containers you fill with water and gross smelling stuff. You then hang them from a fence or tree. The hardware store has them. Make sure to keep the yard as clean as possible too.
Don't use human stuff on the dog since they lick themselves. I was just looking into repellants for my puppy and found that essential oils are OK for dogs (but not cats) as long as they are diluted in water. So far we are using a few drops of lavender oil and tea tree oil with 2oz of water and I spray a little before we go for our walks.
I can’t find the site but there are other oils too like cedar and peppermint. Try a Google search there were quite a few. I was looking for ways to keep the fleas and ticks off of her so it should work for flies too.
where we used to have tons of flies especially during the summer, there was something that we put on her ears. It was like a creme and it really helped never got bitten. the anme of it is Pet-Gaurd Insecticde-gel by virbac. It is only sold by veterinaians.
We get our stuff from Farm and Fleet ( I don't know if you have that around you) on the bottle it says its for horse's. But if you read the bottle its safe for dogs. It has a roll top ( like a roll on deodorant the bottle is the size of roll on deodorant also) and you roll it on the dogs ears.
Our husky has this problem also and doesn't like it inside. We have to apply it 1-2 times a week.
Please check with Springtime pet products online. They have everything!
Try some home remedy things first.
Rub her down with a bounce sheet.
Put Avon skin so soft on her.
Put an insect repellent that we would use on ourselves on her.
