Probably a Yeast Infection

I am pregnant with my third baby and with my first two, I didn't have this problem. It's embarassing, but here it goes. I have major vaginal itching! I have had a yeast infection in my past (long time ago and one time) and from what I can remember, it includes discharge. I have no discharge, just immense itching. I take two showers a day, sleep with no underwear at night, but nothing seems to be relieving it. I was just a bit too embarassed to talk to the doc (I know that's ridiculous seeing he's seen a lot worse of me, but I thought I'd try you ladies first). Thanks a lot and sorry for the "ugly" subject!

What can I do next?

Have you tried cranberry juice? That's supposed to ward off yeast infections. And there are anti-itch cremes to apply. For instance cortizone 10 would help relieve itching, if you want to put its ingredients on you. I mean short term it probably wouldn't hurt, but extended periods of time...Not.
There are products in the homeopathic branch too.

But don't be afreaid to discuss it with your doctor. If no one here can suggest anything, your doctor can.

Try consuming "good bacteria." You can get a supplement, like Shaklee's Optiflora (www.Shaklee.com); and I'm a distributor. So if you decide to go that route, I can get you a good discount. It's also found in yogurt.

I had an infection about ten years ago, and got another one during my second pregnancy. Soooooooo embarassing! I ended up talking to the doc about it, and he had me pick up some Monistat, or something. They say you're never supposed to diagnose it yourself, though, because it can be something worse. And you especially want to be careful since you are pregnant (thrush in your baby). You can get a test from the store (CVS) that will give you a better idea without having to see the doc.

My daughter ended up with thrush for four-five months. It made it hard for her to nurse, and hard for me to tolerate her nursing. We made it through it, though.

I would just suck it up, and talk to your doc. Like you said, "He's seen worse." And yeast infections are very common during pregnancy. He'll know best what to do for you. In the meantime, keep doing what you're already doing for prevention. And add the supplement or yogurt.

Good luck!

Sounds like a yeast infection. I used to get them when I was working out and didn't change out of my wet, sweaty clothes immediately. And for me, I often did not get the discharge. I'd say see the doc, get the meds, be done with it. Fut if you're not comfy with that, foot fungal creams also work. When my daughter was born I took an antibiotic that gave her a yeast infection through the nursing, the doc suggested the anti fungal cream. Ask at the drug store pharmacy, I did and they knew of this product for this purpose. Clotrimazole is the medicine name. Most of all, don't be embarrassed by it...some of us are more prone to the yeast, it's usually a lack of dryness down there (wearing sweaty clothes, not enough air flow, wet bathing suits, not wiping well enough).

I had the same with baby #2. Ater weeks of being too embarassed to ask, I finally couldn't stand it any longer. My doctor suggested using diaper rash cream...and it worked almost immediatly!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!

I'm not a doctor, but my infant son had a yeast infection and a number of people I know, and the doctor, told me about an all natural product Acidophilus. You can buy it at Whole Foods and my doc says some female patients ingest it and others make a paste and put it on externally and it helps! I have a couple girlfriends who swear it works.
