Foothill Christian School in Glendora is excellent. I taught there a couple of years back in the middle school, coming from a public school environment & was blown away with the integrity of the other teachers, staff & leadership of the school. Of course there are struggles in any school, private or public, but I saw things handled in a very fair & efficient manner with the students. I am looking forward to sending my own child there when it's time. Blessings in your search!

It has been a few years but I used to be one of the bus drivers for the school in La Verne. Have you gone to the school and talked with them about your concerns? Also is it being aroung the older kids that concerns you or maybe that your son may not be ready to be in a school situation where they are changing classes instead of staying in a single class the whole day?
I would call and go in and talk with the school about your concerns before you make the committment to a private school.
If you still feel that it would be best to have him elsewhere then do it and also look into the option of homeschooling. I have also worked for Western Christian and it is a good school and they also have a homeschool umbrella program.

Western Christian in Claremont is supposed to be really good. It goes thru 8th grade. And then the campus in Covina has high school. Upland Christian is supposed to be good too. They are in the process of selling the schools to Western Christian. So, next year WC's high school will be located in Upland, not Covina. I now middle school sounds scary, and I don't agree with combining 6th graders with 7th & 8th, but it will be fine. Most of those schools do a pretty good job of keeping the 6th graders separate. Good luck!

I went to Western Christian and then Lutheran High in LaVerne and both were great schools. I graduated in 1997, so it's been a while, but both still seem good.

Hi R. -

My son currently attends Barnhart, a private school in Arcadia. The school is a k-8th grade school. I know some of the 7th and 8th grade children. They are bright, academically challenged, kind and aware that the world does not revolve around them. Don't get me wrong, I am not naive enough to believe that they are not sometimes self absorbed, but I've interacted with these students and they're pretty cool. Barnhart has a virtues program which teaches and works on moral character. It's a great place and we're very happy there. Good luck on your search!

Hi R.:
I wish I could help you out,but I'm in a different area. How does your son feel about the change of schools?I can understand you wanting to send your son to a private school for Academic reasons, but not for the reason your giving. If your son has attended public school up to this point, he has developed friendships. Those friends will go on to Middle-school, and he will have to deal with a new school and developing new friendships. If your plans are to stick him into the middle school when he reaches the 7th grade, then your putting more pressure on him,as far as changing schools and friends once again. Just an observation. I wish you and your son the best.

I agree with the previous response. I think it would be really traumatic on your son to switch schools so much. I have a friend that teaches 6th grade at the Middle School in LaVerne and I have not heard her say anything really bad about it.

As for private schools, I have heard Western Christian is good. I also know there is LaVerne Lutheran. I have no idea on the costs of these. If you decide to put your son in private school I would recommend you keep him there until he goes to high school.

I'm in La Verne also. My nephews all went to Foothill Christian in Glendora. They have been really happy with the school. I've also heard things about the middle school. But not all are bad.
