I stopped breasfeeding my baby last week (she will be 6 months next week). Can I continue taking my prenatal vitamins or should I stop it. My doctor told me to take prenatal vitamins while I was brestfeeding, I forgot to ask if I should continue taking them when I'm done brestfeeding.

Thanks ladies:)

What can I do next?

There is a joke among health care professionals that Americans have the most expensive pee in the world because the majority of vitamins we take are urinated out. As long as you are eating a fairly normal diet, vitamins are not needed.

You can continue taking prenatal vitamins, it won't hurt anything. If you take vitamins anyway, finish them before getting more of your regular vitamins.

I would continue to take them at least for awhile just to build your body back. Also if you think you will be trying for another baby in the relatively near future you might consider continuing so that your body is ready when you are ready to try. I don't think there is any down side to taking them at least for awhile.

I have to disagree with the assumption that vitamins are automatically good. Although it is very hard to get too much vitamins from food, it IS definitely possible to get too much vitamins from a pill. There's a fair amount of research that suggests that taking additional vitamin A every day (found in every multivitamin) is unhealthy. If you aren't breastfeeding and not planning on becoming pregnant again soon, I would recommend to stop taking your prenatals. A healthy diet and exercise is all you need to get your body back in shape.

A vitamin is a vitamin. Why stop being healthy just because you are not breastfeeding? Keep taking them.

I took my prenatals until they were gone, just so they didn't go to waste.

Prenatal vitamins are the best vitamins weather pregnant or not. If you are not taking any other type of vitamin, then continue taking the prenatals. Your hair and nails will thank you for it.

I took my prenatal vitamins until they were gone. They are a vitamin, after all. It's good to have the nutrients, breastfeeding or no.
